Disclaimer: None of it is mine, I just borrowed them. Though I would love to keep the boys… please?
Spoilers: AHBL: Part 1
Side Note: I have to admit that I have only watched half of an episode of Supernatural. But I loved the brief interaction I saw between the brothers, and am now addicted. Basically this disclaimer is to say I don't know the characters enough to write them perfect. But I had to get this drabble down.
I live for constructive criticisms. So please tell me the good and bad; it all helps me become a better writer.

Dean.
It was the last words his little brother would ever say to him. And in that moment, Dean had a quick thought of how Sam's life came full circle at that point. 'Dean' was also the first word Sammy ever said.
I swear I heard it, Dad. I promise you he said my name.
Dean, kids don' start talking that young.
No, but I heard it.
Dean! Please for once in your life just stop with the stories?
He felt the torrent of grief splash his cheeks at the memory. He remembered the pride and joy he had felt for his brother. Even at the tender age of five Dean knew that Sam would be vastly smarter that him. Dean was content with the fact that he might be eclipsed behind Sam's genius, because that way he would always be positioned to have his brother's back.
Another shudder went through Dean's body at that thought, as he realized he didn't have his back…not when it really mattered. So many variables Dean could have saved time on. He should have been there a second sooner, and been there for Sam when he needed him most. Calling Bobby right away, driven a little faster, not spent so long at the roadhouse…
"Dean!"
The sound of his name brought him out of his reverie. Realizing that it was not Sam's voice though, he looked up mournfully to see Bobby's running form in the darkness. Then Dean realized….
No. this was not going to be how it ended for his baby brother. Sam was too good to die in the middle of Cesspool, South Dakota, in the mud and rain.
No. Sam was an exception to the "what is dead should stay dead" rule. And if it killed him, Dean was going to find a way to get that exception….
