Sofia Curtis was tired. Tired of Las Vegas. Tired of her mother's shadow she couldn't get out of. But most of all she was tired of not fitting in anywhere.

When Jim Brass had asked if she wanted to get a drink, it sounded like a good idea. Brass had been one of the few to make her feel welcome as a detective.

When the bartender had simply waved to them and sat down a bottle and two glasses, she knew she'd be in trouble, but started drinking anyway.

"I'm leaving," she slurred after about five shots. She thought Brass was still on his first glass. "I've been offered a job in the middle of nowhere Missouri. I'll be in the running for chief in five years or so."

"Sounds good Sofie," Brass said lifting his glass in salute to her and taking a drink. "Sometimes you have to start fresh to find yourself. New city, new people, and maybe a new you."

Maybe she'll invite him for a visit when she gets settled. It'd be nice to fall into those blue eyes one day. And she's heard middle of nowhere Missouri is a nice place to retire to.
