Prompt Number 2: #69 (Scenario) You just ordered a smile, and I look at you like you're insane before bursting out into laughter.
(&)(&)(&)(&)(&)(&)
"What can I get for you this evening?" Betty's tired worn out blue green eyes looked back down to the pad that she was going to take yet another order.
"A smile." A soft voice with a hint of laughter under lining it answered.
Betty looked up into the mirth filled chocolate brown eyes of a girl her age. She blinked slowly as the what the raven haired girl actually said. She figured her tired out mind were playing tricks on her. "What can I get for you this evening?" She questioned once more. Keeping her eyes on the customer's eyes. After all it wasn't the girl's fault that her shift was the hell of all shifts that evening.
"A smile." The girl spoke once more.
Betty's right eye brow rose. She figured that her brain was just trying to find a creative way of altering her to know that she still had a shift to finish before she could go home and lay her weary head down on her pillow. She shook her head. "I'm sorry but I didn't catch what you said."
The girl leaned forward. "I want you to smile for me B." Warm chocolate brown eyes softly stared deeply into tired blue green ones.
Betty figured she had nothing to lose. This was after all a dream. Her head tilted to the right and she burst into a gale of laughter. Suddenly she stopped in mid laughter. She fully realized that this was no dream. She had made a compete fool of herself.
"Sit down B." The girl gentle voice ordered. "Please."
Betty took a seat in the booth across from the other girl. "Whom are you? I think we share a few classes ... but I don't remember you name." She softly spoke. "But you seem to know me. So well that you call me B." Her eye brows furrowed. "No one calls me that. But you ..." her mouth closed.
The chocolate eyes shaded over with unshed tears. "How are you doing B?" She husked out.
"Veronica?" Betty's eyes widen.
Veronica nodded. "Yes it's me Betty." She sighed deeply.
Betty stared at the other girl in shock as memory after memory came rushing through her brain. Tears rolled down her cheeks unchecked.
Veronica leaned forward. "You had been gone much longer this time." She reached over to touch Betty's waist. "I have managed to keep you safe. As always." A sad soft smile.
"I can never leave you." Betty whispered as her eyes stayed glued onto her wife. She leaned forward and gripped Veronica's hand tightly between her own. "I'm so sorry Ronnie." She got out through chocked sobs.
"Your shift is over baby." Veronica gently said as she reached up with her free hand and gently traced her beloved's cheekbone. The wetness of the tears broke her heart. But she was so happy that Betty was back once more.
Betty slowly nodded. "I want to go home."
Veronica slid out of the booth and helped her beloved out. Keeping her arms around Betty's waist; and keeping her wife against her she led the way down the isle of Pop's diner. She nodded her thanks to Pops as he held the door open for them.
Betty turned and pulled her beloved closer to her. Resting her forehead against her wife's. "I love you Veronica. No matter where I am in this crazy world ... I will always love you. I will always find my way back to you."
"I know." Veronica whispered.
