Cath

There was a boy in her room. This time, Cath didn't have to check her room assignment to know that she was in the right place. "Levi!" She leaped into his arms as he laughed and kissed the top of her head. Levi smiled, his bright white teeth contrasting with his tan skin.

"Hey! Ground Rule 2!" Have you idiots seriously forgotten?" Reagan burst in. "No lovey-dovey stuff near me!"

"Reagan, you are as charming as an irritated bear," Levi grinned as Reagan stuck her tongue out at him. It was good to be back in Pound Hall. Cath had so many memories of this place: writing fic, reading to Levi, sobbing into her pillow when she saw him kiss another girl, reading the last Simon Snow book… She still couldn't believe that it was all over, that Gemma T. Leslie's fantastic series was done, just like that. She didn't want Simon and Baz to be done, finished, just because their creator said it was so. She hadn't stopped writing, of course. She still created AUs and wrote Simon/Baz all the time. Cath had even branched out and wrote some Penelope related fic, just for fun. She had Wren by her side, writing with her, just like old times. But who was she kidding? She and Wren pretended not to notice, but where she used to get 15 thousand, 20 thousand hits when she wrote Carry On, Simon, she now got half. But, Cath reasoned, she would worry about that later. Right now, she was just happy to be back at UNL with her best friends.

Wren

"Hi! I'm Zoe," chirped the chipper, short girl in the plaid shirt and black skinny jeans. Ugh. A freshman. Why do they have to be so peppy? Wren supposed that was what she was like last year. She visibly winced as she thought of last year, as she had so many bad memories of that awful time of her life: her dumb roommate Courtney; going to the hospital when she drank too much… And then there was what she did to Cath. It wasn't just last year. All through junior and senior years of high school, she and Cath had grown apart. Last year, however, what she had done to Cath wasn't growing apart. It was cruelty. She wasn't there for her when her first boyfriend broke up with her. She wasn't there when she started dating Levi, her first boyfriend that wasn't an "end table". Hell, in some ways, despite all her bluntness, Reagan had been more of a sister to Cath last year than Wren. The more she thought about it, the bitchier the last-year

Wren seemed. But she was making things right. Over the summer, she and Cath had become maybe closer than ever. They had done all kinds of fun activities together, like paintballing, manicures and pedicures, movie watching (mostly Simon of course) and writing. It felt so good to be back in full fangirl mode, and Cath seemed pretty pumped about it too. But it just wasn't the same now that the Simon Snow series was over. The names of Magicath and Wrenegade (she loved that name) still carried some weight in the fandom, but people had just stopped reading. The magic was gone. Truth be told, Wren didn't really care, as long as she was writing with Cath again, but Cath cared, and it was really getting to her. Wren could tell, even though Cath tried not to let it show. They needed to find a new fandom.
