Duskguard: The Vampires of Skyrim
Chapter 1: The Swift Kill
The wounded man ran through the forest, the wolves not the only thing on his tail. The blurs of passing trees wooshing by as he ran, panting as he quickly became out of breath. As the wolves quickly approached him with eyes ablaze; the man bolted up the nearest tree, avoiding the snarling wolves below. He waited for what seemed like hours as the wolves diffused across the forest.
He leaned his head against the rough, mossy bark of the cypress tree he was suddenly greeted with the voice of the one he feared most... an adolescent, Breton boy. "Beautiful trees aren't they? Cypresses..." What caught the man's attention most was the young child's eyes. An astonishingly vibrant shade of violet. The man let out a scream so great, it was almost as loud as a dragon's th'um, which was quickly silenced.
The day arrived after a few hours of starlit skies. The city of Whiterun, fast awakening in the rising sun. Guards circulate the city streets, questioning citizens of the whereabouts of an elderly man who had disappeared the night before. With a negative response by all who where questioned, the guards decided to call off the search with the Jarl's permission. "This makes absolutely no sense! How can one of the oldest citizens in Whiterun just disappear?" said Jarl Balgruuf. " I don't know my Jarl... apparently there's been vampire sightings in Morthal... Maybe there has been things like that here? Maybe it's just another Falmer attack..." Irileth said. "Maybe... but if sightings have been in Morthal, why would they come all the way down here?" Balgruuf asked. "Again so many questions that need to be answered; Who abducted the old man?, Why did they do it? And most of all... How did they do it without being seen? We should get a trusted group of people to go looking for him." Jarl said. "Who though, I'll go myself with a small group, to prevent more casualties." Irileth said. "No, I have a better idea... Summon my Thane..." Balgruuf said. "My Jarl, it's not that I disagree with you or disrespect your decision but... He's so young!" Irileth stated. "I think he'll be okay." Balgruuf said. "My Jarl, your Thane is here. He's brought his company." The guard then opened the door to the adolescent Breton boy with piercing eyes.
