Chapter One:

Angelica

The night was dark and cold. It was storming outside, and the thunder burst in Angelica Schuyler's ears. Angelica looked outside her window and found that water was flooding her driveway. She had to drive to Alex and Eliza's wedding tomorrow. She couldn't stand the rain. It made her feel weak and useless. She was alone. She had been alone since her husband left her so many years ago. Now she was still young. She was approaching her mid-30s, but she was still frail and heartbroken. There was still an aching pain inside her. Was it anger? Or was it the stabbing feeling of loneliness? Perhaps, it was only a bad meal. The days went by faster than anything she had ever seen. The sound of thunder filled her ears once again, and she thought of what life might be like if she changed her introvertive ways. There was a sudden knock on the door. Angelica walked slowly to the door, and opened it. There was a package sitting on the doorstep. What could possibly be inside? Angelica thought. Her confusion grew larger. She hadn't ordered anything in the last two weeks. Only a dress for the wedding, which already came in. She put the package on her counter. "Angie?" A voice called. It was Peggy Schuyler, Angelica's sister. Peggy came down the stairs. Her curly brown hair swayed back and forth, and her yellow dress made small, almost unnoticeable movements. "What time are we leaving tomorrow? I have to meet John for lunch before the wedding." She said, blushing a little. John Laurens was Peggy's long-term boyfriend. They had been dating since Peggy graduated high school. That was 5 years ago. "I was planning on leaving at three. It takes an hour to get to the beach, and the wedding starts at 5:00." Angelica said. She had worked out all of it in her head. Angelica was Eliza's maid of honor, and she had to be there half an hour early. "Thanks!" Peggy said. She ran back upstairs, and Angelica glanced back at the package. She started to open it. Flowers decorated the inside, and there was a note placed on the bottom of the box. It read: Roses are red, violets are blue, I have never loved somebody as much as I have loved you. Sincerely, T.

Angelica read the note over and over again. Who was T? And who loved her? Angelica threw the note in the trash can. She walked back over to the couch and sat down. Then she fell asleep, dreaming of the life she might just start as soon as tomorrow.
