Another original Thomas story, this time it's "Really Useful Edward" with added lines by tate310. Enjoy and comment.
Edward is a steam engine who works on Sir Topham Hatt's railway. He's the oldest engine on the line, and because of this, he usually just shunts freight cars in the yard.
Despite being old, Edward shows all the engines that he too, can be really useful.
One afternoon, Edward was shunting in the yards, when Sir Topham Hatt came to see him.
"I have a very special job for you Edward." he said. "You are going to take passengers to the theater to see a special performance of "The Lion King"
Edward was delighted. He hadn't taken passengers in a very long time.
Later, while Edward was being coupled up to the coaches, Gordon puffed in with the Express.
"I am taking passengers to see "The Lion King" said Edward cheerfully.
Gordon was cross. In his opinion, he thought he should be the one taking the coaches.
"Who chose you to take a special?" grunted Gordon.
"Sir Topham Hatt chose me of course, because I am really useful."
"All you do is shunt cars." replied Gordon. "You can't pull passengers."
Edward didn't care. He was going to prove Gordon and everyone else that he could pull passengers.
But soon, it began to rain heavily. Edward's driver became worried that the journey would be difficult.
"What way is Edward going?" asked the stationmaster
"Up Gordon's hill, it's the quickest way to the theater." replied the driver.
"Edward can't handle Gordon's hill! It's too dangerous for him."
"Nonsense! We've been up that hill hundreds of times, and we've never had a problem."
But everyone was worried about Edward going up the hill.
Soon, all the passengers had boarded, and Edward departed towards the theater.
The rails were slippery and wet from all the rain.
"Go slow and steady Edward." said the driver.
Edward puffed on, determined to get the passengers to the theater on time.
They soon saw Gordon's hill up ahead.
"Pull hard Edward, you can do it!"
Edward pulled and pulled and pulled as hard as he could, and managed to make it up Gordon's hill.
The passengers cheered! They were going to make it to the theater on time!
When Edward pulled into the theater station, Sir Topham Hatt was waiting with Lady Hatt and Dowager Hatt.
"Good job Edward!" said Sir Topham Hatt. "You have shown yourself that you can pull passengers, and you are a really useful engine!"
Edward felt very pleased, and was glad to be part of Sir Topham Hatt's railway!
