Levi tore off his cape, hanging it up on the rack beside his bed as he collapsed onto the mattress, his expression not faltering once. Keeping a straight face was probably all he was good for, or so he began to believe. If he couldn't even save those who he cared most for, then what purpose could he possibly serve? His heart was heavy and defeat lingered in the air. His entire squad was demolished, the lance corporal didn't even have their lifeless bodies to mourn over.

A soft knock tapped on his door and it swung open, revealing a familiar face, "Levi…" she began, looking at him.

"Don't, Hanji." He cut her off before she could continue, his eyes piercing into her, letting her know it wasn't the time for comfort, "I'm going out."

Hanji nodded obediently, stepping out of the way as he breezed past her, she could understand why he didn't wish to be approached.

Levi walked out of the Survey Corps central and headed into a small, barren field. All he wanted was to be alone, getting close to anyone would just mean more pain on his behalf.

"Petra…" he began, when he reached the center of the field, "T'ch. This is stupid. I know you can't hear me. But, I just wanted you to know I'm sorry." Levi tried to best to control his emotions, but for the first time in his life they were out of his control. He raised a shaky hand to his eye, shocked to see his fingered dampened at the touch. Tears stained his face and his voice began to break.

"Not just you, no. Erd, Auruo, Gunter… I'm sorry. But Petra, I never got to tell you…"

He broke off, wiping his tears away, he looked down and began walking away, shaking his head as it hung low.

In almost a whisper, he uttered his final departure to his fallen squad, "Petra, I loved you."
