An: happy new year to everyone xx
Everyone was happy, but she wasn't. They were all laughing, joking and smiling but she felt so left out, like she wasn't part if it anymore. She decided to leave; no one would probably notice her go anyway. Or so she thought. Putting on her coat and scarf she slipped out of the pub without any of the others seeing.
It was cold outside but she didn't mind. Snow was falling, New Year's Eve and everything seemed so quiet. She pulled her thin coat more around her before stopping to check the time on her phone; 11:52. She sighed, maybe she was better off alone.
Just as she was about to carry on walking and go home a familiar voice made her turn. "Kate."
She spun on her heel "Jake."
"Are you alright?" He questioned walking up to her.
She bit her lip "fine." She lied.
He smiled "your tongue will split, Barker."
She laughed looking at the ground but didn't say anything.
"So what's wrong?"
She shrugged "just didn't feel part of it..." She paused. "All you lot know each other and have a lot to talk about and I guess...I just felt like I didn't belong...I dunno..."
He sighed seeing his breath in front of him "You're one of us now Kate..."
"I know..." She nodded tucking an annoying piece of hair behind her ear only for it to fall in front of her face, she looked at it annoyed before leaving it and saying "just being daft I guess..."
He put his hand on her arm at the exact moment the quiet was broken by fire works. He laughed slightly as she blew at the piece of hair. He tucked it behind her ear for her. Neither reacted or said anything to the sudden feeling of intimacy between them.
"Happy new year, Kate." He smiled stroking her cheek.
"Happy new year, Jake."
