Sometimes, he just likes to watch her sleep.

She's caught him doing it once or twice.

She just smiles her smile and laughs her laugh

Then threatens to knock him out if he doesn't quit it.

He says sleep is no match for his eyes' need to see her

She always hits him in the face with a pillow for saying something so cheesy

But cuddles up just a tiny bit closer to him just the same.

He remembers back a lifetime ago

The times of a girl so timid she hid what was in her heart

The times of a boy so oblivious to what was so obviously in front of him.

But that, again, was lifetime ago

A lifetime awash in a sea of hardships and of triumphs , of losses and of gains

And now here he lays thanking every higher power there is to be beside her

Sure, they've had their ups and downs

He's a no nonsense, stick up his ass, by-the-book boyscout

But then again, she can always make him smile and convince him bending rules isn't all that bad

She always has this nagging fear he will leave her for someone he could touch

But then again, he tells her that holding her gloved hand fills him with more joy than any kiss ever could.

These are the thoughts that go through his mind as his eyes get heavy and he can watch her no longer

After all, he's got papers to grade and mutants to train

But he can face an eternity of tomorrows with a smile on his face

Because he has a tattered copy of Henry the Fifth in his desk

A favorite sweater that still fits him like a glove

And an angel who guards his heart.
