Challenge fic: 100 to 400 word fic based on a summary we had to choose from a loooong list. I did 3.
Title: Shades of Black
Summary: Regina centric. Five times she told the truth and the one time someone believed her.
Word Count: 266
Throughout her life, Regina could remember five important times she had told the truth, and the one time someone believed her.
The first was to a young Snow White. After witnessing a romantic kiss between her and Daniel, Regina had comforted Snow by explaining what true love was. And while that was a very important lesson for the young girl to learn, that was not the most important.
"My mother. She'll stand in the way." Snow had not believed her- to the detriment of the entire land.
The second time was to Snow again. This time at the princess's wedding to her true love. It wasn't right that Snow be allowed the happiness that she had stolen from Regina, albeit unknowingly.
"I will destroy your happiness if it's the last thing I do."
Some had believed her, but most had not. They wouldn't make that mistake again.
The next time was to her best friend.
"Love is weakness, Maleficent."
Her disbelief cost her twenty-eight years in a cruel and unusual prison, only to be slayed by the hero as Emma rescued everyone else.
The fourth truth was to Henry, her son.
"I know you think otherwise, but I'm just trying to protect you."
He didn't. He saw her only as the evil queen she had been, trying to destroy his happiness.
The final time had also been to Henry.
"No matter what you think... no matter what anyone else tells you... I do love you."
It didn't matter that no had believed her the other times, because Henry believed her then. That was all that mattered.
