Till the Flowers Bloom Red
Fox sat alone in the fields of Corneia. Green hills surrounded him as the sky rolled over him. It was partly cloudy with a chance of rain. Fox always liked the rain—it reminded him of his father. The rain was always warm and inviting on Corneia, never cold and frostbitten. Overcast days were where you could find the Azure Lilies that were in bloom during the spring— it's where Fox was at this moment. Fox looked as some of the lilies already started to bloom. As soon as the rain would it, the entire hillsides that have them would burst open and the once green scenery would become blue. His ears twitched as someone walked towards him.
"Fox," A gruff voice said. The young vulpine didn't turn around—he knew full well who it was, "I thought I might find you out here."
"Are you saying you don't want me coming here?" Fox retorted. A flash of gray was seen out of his peripheral, and it sat down next to him.
"Of course not, just it must get lonely." The person said once again. Fox felt a paw reach for his hand, but didn't object when it was taken. Fox stared away from the lilies and looked at the grey furred paw that led his eyes up a rather muscular arm to the familiar, and handsome, face of Wolf O'Donnell.
"It does…but I feel my dad with me." Fox said. The grey paw reached around Fox's back and pulled him into Wolf's chest. He was wearing an unbuttoned shirt that showed off his abs and pectoral muscles. Fox felt his spirit lift and a smile creep across his lip as he listened to Wolf's breathing and heart beats.
"How long have we been together?" Fox asked. Wolf smiled and planted a small kiss on the vulpine's head. He had always admired Fox for his bravery, his leadership, integrity, honor—the list went on. But the one thing he admired about his lover over all else—was his child like innocence. Wolf had never met such an uplifting person—the type of person never came by in his work as a mercenary—but after the Aparoid Invasion he started to see Fox for his true colors. Fox was young—twenty-six—but yet he acted with the leadership and cunning of a commander general that has been in the position for nearly a decade. But after the Aparoids, Fox became that innocent, delicate flower he was now. That wasn't saying he wasn't strong—Fox could beat him in arm wrestling—but he would prefer to use diplomacy rather than raw strength. He was merciful—something Wolf could never be—and that's what he admired about Fox.
"Nearly three years." Wolf answered rubbing Fox into him.
They stayed in silence. But that silence was broken when the sound of distant thunder roared from the heavens. The two canids looked up and felt rain patter their faces. Soon they were encased in a torrential downpour. They looked to the field and saw it erupt with blue, lightning quick. The spectacle played over in both their minds as they sat, wet, together in the rain. Wolf cursed under his breath as he realized the situation they were in. He stood up and helped Fox onto his feet. He turned to leave with his love, but Fox grabbed his arm. Wolf looked at him with his one good blue eye and they were locked together. Wolf pulled Fox into his old yet strong embrace. And there they stood—lovers in the rain.
"And how long will we be together Wolf?" Fox said inching closer to his muzzle. Wolf smelt Fox's scent and that made his eyes roll in the back of his head.
"Until I make the Lilies bloom red, Fox" They kissed and the rain softened when they did.
