A/N: Whew! This is finally out of my head. Now maybe I can focus on my other writings. Maybe.

Disclaimer: I do not own GetBackers or Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Good band, but hard to remember their song titles.

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
Ginji sat on a park bench, head slowly bobbing in time to the song playing through his MP3 player.
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
and sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
It was after midnight. Just him and the park Ban had chosen to park the Ladybug in for the night. But Ginji couldn't sleep.
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
"Good evening, Ginji-kun. May I ask what you're listening to?" The deep, yet soft voice asked. Ginji looked up, paused the music. Taking out one earbud, he offered it to the person standing beside his bench. A black coat was draped neatly over the wood back as Akabane sat down. Accepting the earbud, he tucked it into his right ear, leaning close to Ginji. The blond re-started the song.
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive
Purple eyes flared slightly. The ever-present smirk slipped the tiniest bit. But Ginji saw. And Akabane knew.
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
If anyone had walked by, they would have seen two young men sharing a moment of music together. It could be interpreted as friendship, it could be seen as romantic. Many might have settled for "How sweet".
They all would have been wrong.
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
Ginji's head bobbed in rhythm, blond spikes brushing against the brim of a large black hat. Had anyone been so close to the Jackal and survived?
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
Two young men, sitting quietly together very late at night, out in a velvet-wrapped park.
I just want you to know who I am
A moment of stolen time, away from everyone and everything.
I just want you to know who I am
Encased in the darkness, truth is shared through a set of earbuds and a gaijin song.
I just want you to know who I am
When the song ended, Akabane took the earbud out and cleaned it with a handkerchief he fished out of his pants pocket. He handed it back to Ginji, who took it without a word. The former Volt hadn't spoken a word the entire time. Their fingers brushed and a faint spark erupted from the contact.
Akabane stood and retrieved his coat. Folding it over his arm, he bowed to Ginji, one hand on his hat brim in a knowing tug. Ginji watched silently as Dr. Jackal disappeared into the shadows. He looked down at his hand, the one that had interacted with Akabane's skin. The Jackal had been gloveless.
