It all started with a letter. A letter from the Bei Fong family that read that they wanted their daughter home and promised to listen and try to understand her. Of course, Toph was skeptical at first, the last time she had received a letter from her 'family', she had ended up in a metal box. However, Iroh assured her that the letter was authentic and advised her that perhaps she should go see her parents.
Toph had been reluctant at first; she didn't really want to leave the fire nation where she was accepted back to the home where they tried to keep her trapped like a wild animal. Iroh eventually convinced her that it was for the best and Toph agreed on the condition that she would have some company on her trip. Preferably, she would have liked Iroh to accompany her. However, Iroh was Fire Lord now and could not leave the Fire Nation. So Iroh assigned Zuko to keep Toph company. Zuko had refused at first, but eventually gave in for his Uncle.
The journey had been eventful to say the least. They had been attacked three times, had argued over 100 times, and had gotten lost about 10 times. Despite all this, the two were actually having fun with eachother, not that they would ever admit it. When arriving to the Bei Fong residence, things took another unexpected term. Toph parents had immediately taken sight of Zuko and made up their minds that the two were a couple. They were dragged into the house and were interrogated about their relationship.
"We're not a couple!" The two exclaimed, red painting their cheeks.
Toph grabbed Zuko's arm and dragged him out into the gardens to get some peace. She collapsed onto the ground and groaned; Zuko followed in a more graceful manner but nonetheless was frustrated.
"I'm never listening to another letter again," Toph declared.
"Lady Toph, your mother request that you and their son-in-law please return inside for dinner," a servant spoke approaching the two.
The earth rumbled underneath the servant, frightened, the servant rushed back into the house earning a light chuckle from Toph. Zuko merely rolled his eyes.
"Everyone is crazy," he muttered to himself.
Toph laughed once more.
"You know, maybe they have the right idea," she said thoughtfully.
Zuko looked at her with disbelief for a moment, throw off guard by her reply, but rather than brushing it off, he smirked. A similar thought running through his mind.
"Maybe they do."
