It was a sweltering hot Saturday when Tony walked into the library and found Scott reading, deep in concentration.
"What are you looking at," Tony asked his friend taking a seat next to him.
"It's called the wish. It's about a man whose wife is very sick and he makes a wish for her to get well and the wish comes true"
"Something tells me you wish you were that man," Tony said with a half smile playing on his face.
Scott smiled
"Are you trying to tell me something he asked hopefully," Scott asked wishing that he would find out Dominique was in remission or even better that there was no trace of the cancer left in her at all.
"I wish he replied dejectedly," Tony said with a sigh, "Scott I wish I could tell you what you want to hear but if I did it would be dishonest."
"I know," Scott said, "I'm sorry if I seem so frustrated"
Tony placed an arm on his friend's shoulder.
The next day Tony was in his office looking at some files when Scott came in.
"RET," he said
"H U H," Tony replied confused
"I was reading about something called R E T. It's short for Reverse Electrode Therapy"
"Scott there are several problems with that. It's extremely painful for the person going through it who's experiencing the symptoms and in her condition it wouldn't be effective"
"Why?"
Tony explained it to him in words he could understand. Scott looked miserable.
After work that day Tony went to the hospital chapel and prayed.
Oh sweet creator all that I can do is not enough to cure my friend. I pray for you to make my friend well. I can't stand to see Scott so miserable about the loss he's about to face. He's not ready to face that agony.
"In the name of the father the son and the Holy Spirit amein"
"Hello"
Tony looked up and saw a woman.
"Hi"
"I'm Monica"
"Tony"
"I heard you praying. It was beautiful. Prayer is really a beautiful thing"
"My friend is dying of a brain tumor," Tony explained, "and my other friend, her husband is desperate for her to recover"
"I can imagine. That must be a very difficult experience"
"It's HELL"
"It must seem that way"
Monica smiled.
"Your friend will be fine," she told him
"How do you know that?"
"Because I'm an angel," she said beginning to glow, "and I have friends in high places"
"I don't even know what to say," Tony said
"What? Of course you know what to say. You said it"
"Thank you Monica"
"You're welcome"
