Prologue

Deep in the Nether, a battle raged on between Rot—a zombie pigman—and the Nether army. Rot was a skilled Nether veteran, familiar with the army's tactics and skills. Even though he was outnumbered, he far outranked them in terms of strength, speed, experience, endurance, and intelligence. He recently broke free from Herobrine's vicious mind control.

Herobrine was once a monster like the rest, but he quickly rose in power, magic and strength. At first, they thought he was their savior, but soon realized he was their demise. With his new power that the population of monsters bestowed on him freely, he forced them into slavery, making them work for him. When they tried to rebel against him, he used his mind control powers to keep them in line.

Only a few of the monsters have been able to break free from his power, but they are still ruthlessly hunted by his army.

Chapter 1

Rot ran through the Nether fortress, constantly fighting off endless waves of zombie pigman, magma cubes, and wither skeletons. As he ran through the long tunnel of the fortress, he realized he was starting to run out of room. As the hallway came to an end, he broke through the window and jumped out.

Just when he thought he was about to fall into the lava below, he landed on a ghast. The ghast screeched in a mixture of surprise and anger. The ghast was able to shake him off but he landed on a pile of Netherack.

He saw three blazes rise up from the ground, who began to shoot flaming fireballs at him. Making a last-ditch effort at survival, he ran across the hard Netherack toward the portal. As he got closer and closer to gateway, he could see its purple glow over the horizon, filling him with renewed hope that ignited his fighting spirit to keep going a little longer.

But before he could pass through the portal, he was abruptly stopped by a large canyon with a river of searing hot lava. Just as all hope seemed lost, a ghast rose from the lava. Rot jumped on the ghast without a second thought, or even a first thought for that matter. His only means of survival was the unpredictable and dangerous beast of fire.

Grabbing one of the ghast's tentacles, Rot discovered he could not only hold on to the ghast but maneuver it in the direction that he needed to go. He pulled himself up, grabbing another tentacle, he rode the ghast like a hang-glider. He expertly steered the ghast as if he has been riding one since he was a zombie piglet.

Once he reached the gateway, he makes a last second decision to ride it the rest of the way through the portal using the ghast to destroy the obsidian blocks, keeping his enemies trapped in the Nether.

With the imminent danger neutralized, Rot guided his companion to the lake where he let go of the tentacles, dropping safely into the water. With the abrupt loss of Rot's direction, the ghast ran into the side of a mountain, causing him to spin out of control. Rot, having compassion for the ghast who helped him, he ran over to the crash-landing site, providing medical care for his new friend.

Finally taking a moment to rest, he noticed the ghast did not try to attack or get away. This made him think that perhaps the ghast was free to break away from the mind control or maybe ghasts are not affected by the mind control at all.
