I do not own FMA. Enjoy!

The thunderstorm outside would usually be a catalyst for nightmares for Riza Hawkeye, but she had a feeling that tonight would be a different story. She couldn't put her finger on what exactly made her think this way- maybe it was the soft music the radio was producing, its dulcet and soft sounds wrapping around the clamor of the thunder and somehow softening the usually harsh blow of the nature produced sound. Of course, it was probably who she was sharing this night with that made it better.

Riza looked down at the beautiful woman that had her head resting on her lap, her dark eyes closed in rest and her lips parted just slightly. Maria Ross was one of the most beautiful women that the sniper had ever seen, both inside and out, and it was on nights like this when she thanked any type of god that may be out there for creating her. She thought about how she'd usually spent stormy nights shaking in bed, her only company being her loyal dog that did his very best to keep his owner asleep and peaceful. While Riza appreciated the canine's efforts, there was something about pure human company that truly did ease her troubled mind.

While Riza rarely spoke about her nightmares with Maria so as not to worry her, the blonde found that having the second lieutenant around helped ease the severity of them, or oftentimes just kept them from coming at all. In a way, Maria was her living, breathing security blanket, and Riza felt just like a selfish child when it came to her- if someone tried to take her away from her, she'd stubbornly clutch to her and cry if they were ever successful in forcing them apart. Riza didn't think she's ever felt so strongly for one person, and she wasn't sure she ever would.

The blonde was shaken from her thoughts when she saw Maria's eyes open slowly, only getting halfway before her sleepy gaze settled on Riza.

"It's late, sweet bird...rest," Maria murmured, sitting up and gently pulling Riza down with her onto the couch. Once the second lieutenant was content that her lover was comfortable, she gently rested her head on Riza's chest, wrapping her arms loosely around her neck before falling asleep. Riza sighed contently, whispering a loving "night, black beauty" before dropping off herself, the sound of soft music filling the air as the rain started to die down.

Sorry this was so short but it was just a little idea that I had a few days ago- hopefully my next Mariza fic will be longer!
