Mornings Can Be Rough
Skye groaned and pulled her blankets over her head, desperate to ignore the annoying beep of her alarm clock. She was supposed to go into the lab to help teach a class today, but it was just so dreadfully cold. Boston, was in the middle of a huge cold front, and the thought of even walking to the subway station with the wind biting at her nose and cheeks only made her want to burrow deeper in the covers. Why couldn't she just stay here all day? Lucky Jane got to stay home all day, with warm tea, a cozy chair, her laptop, and her cats. Maybe there is an advantage to the humanities. The blonde wondered, pretending that there was no annoying beeping coming from her bedside table. Her fiancée shuffled around in his sleep beside her.
"At least turn off the alarm, some of us don't have to be anywhere until the afternoon, and would like their sleep." Jeffery grumbled his pillow stuffed over his head. Skye stopped the alarm.
"If I have to get up, you're coming with me." He let out a quick, muffled laugh from underneath his pillow.
"As if! It's cold, and besides I'm asleep." In revenge, Skye stuck her cold toes against his legs. He yelped, causing her to laugh. "You are evil; disturbing an innocent mans sleep like that. What did I do to deserve that?" He paws the nightstand looking for his glasses.
"Consider it revenge for the late night practice sessions." She laughed, teasing lightheartedly.
He whips the covers off, laughing at her immediate reaction to the cold air. "Some people enjoy classical music before bed." She yanks the covers away from him, wrapping them around her like a cloak. While her eyes are blocked by the blanket, he pushes her off the bed. With a thud, she lands on the carpet. Giggles escape from the mound of blankets. Jeffery joins in her laughter, sitting next to her on the floor.
"Do you really mind my practicing late at night?"
"No, I like hearing you play. You know that. I just needed an excuse to put cold feet on you." He fake pouts, as she stuck her tongue out. "You should've proposed to someone who doesn't put cold toes on you."
"As nice as this is, I can't deal with undergrads without coffee, and a complete breakfast. So," Skye stood, leaving to go to the kitchen, the grey blanket still wrapped around her shoulders. As soon as her bare feet touched the hard wood she shrieked. "Gah! The floor is cold! Jeffery, grab me some socks from the dresser please." He threw the balled up socks at her, and they hit her in the face. He suppressed a laugh, pressing a hand to his mouth. "Gee thanks." She deadpanned. As he laughed, he hoisted her up onto his back and ran into the apartment's small kitchen. She bounced along on her fiancée's back and laughed clinging to his shoulders, the blanket flying out from behind them. While some mornings can be rough, but right now theirs just seemed perfect.
Author's Note.
It's another fluffy one! Somehow whenever I try to write fluff for other couples it just doesn't seem to work, but with these two something just clicks. I just enjoy their chemistry so much! I know this is cliche, but please leave a review with new prompts and ideas, I would love to try to do more with all the Penderwicks characters, not just Skye and Jeffery, but I need some prompts. Also feel free to PM me, I would be so happy to chat with some other Penderwicks fans! (I promise I'm friendly)Thank you for reading both this story and this long authors note. I hope you're having a good day!
