Just a short little piece based mostly on the spoilers and the title of Monday's episode Scared to Death. FYI I've never seen The Shining but I have been to The Stanley, but this is just one of many reasons they're not mine.

Horror Movies

The knock on the door is unexpected. So at eight thirty I'm peeling myself out of my office chair moving to answer the door. Only to find my girlfriend standing on the other side, the one that had insisted that I wasn't going to die of a horror movie curse and that I should go home and work on my novel so that she could finish the paperwork in peace and get some sleep tonight. Yet here she is smiling at me in flats, jeans, and a sweater with her hair swept up into a ponytail, clutching a grocery bag.

"Kate, hi." I let her in with a smile as she stops to give me a kiss on the cheek as she comes into the room.

"Hi," she grins setting the bag on the counter, and begins pulling out stacks of DVDs "Ok, so you probably have most of these but I brought a selection of all the famous horror movies, but if you don't want to watch those I have a selection of sci-fi and comedies as well." She spreads the choices out before me, and adds with a flourish, "Plus a bottle of that wine you liked last week, but it's up to you to have the popcorn."

I'm grinning like a fool at her trying to figure out what's happening. "What is this?"

She just shrugs, "What? You were afraid that you were next on the 'horror movie' scared to death list. So I'm here to make sure that you're not scared to death." She says the last part with a patented eyeroll.

"And you brought horror movies."

"It goes with the theme." Another shrug, "You're the one that thinks you're going to die not me. I'm not picky."

She waves a hand and turns her back on me moving around the kitchen like it's hers pulling the popcorn out and throwing it in the microwave as she pulls out glasses humming to herself popping to cork on the wine bottle and pouring us both glasses and handing one over to me. "What's with the face?" She asks taking in what I'm sure is the equivalent of a happy puppy look on my face.

"You're incredible you know that right?" I ask reaching out to take the glass from her, using my free hand to pull her closer to me.

Her head tips up, smiling at me, at my general silliness, it didn't really matter. "You've told me that before, but what in particular sparked this statement?"

"Nothing more than your amazing self showing up with horror movies when I've been acting like an idiot the last two days."

Laughter spills out, "Well you did have some pretty ridiculous theories. But you're my idiot." Popping up on her toes she brushes a kiss over my lips, "Now shall we watch The Ring or The Shining?"

"Oh can we take a trip to the hotel The Shining is based on?"

"You want to go stay in the mountains of Colorado in a haunted hotel?"

"The fact that you know that makes you even hotter."

Another laugh as she untangles herself grabbing the copy of the DVD. "So, The Shining?"

Hurray! New Castle on Monday :)
