Everyone and anyone knew of religion in the Hiiragi household; it was their way of life. In fact, this way of life was rigid in them. Then came the realization to them of a single day's work, that a single day was all that was needed to change how they thought.
They believed in all these gods. The miko gods, which they had worshipped, came to be their primary understanding of life. This was the way they are. Or at the very least, could be considered. This changed when Tsukasa brought home a stray cat.
"Mom, look at this kitty! It's so cute. Can we keep it?" questioned the youngest member of the family, holding in her arms a small, white cat, sitting cutely watching everyone. They, of course, allowed this animal to live with them. Who wouldn't?
Not a week after, it had learned that it could follow instructions, any kind of little tricks, it was asked. Of course, this was unusual for a cat, but they were very happy it could roll like a dog, or jump like⦠whatever you would call how a cat jumps. They soon decided to name it Nyamo, and it would be their cat.
Nyamo was always there, always listening to the ins and outs of the Hiiragi lifestyle. This never seemed to change. What did change, however, was that wherever this cat would go, it would make everyone happy just by being as cute as it was.
Then, the Hiiragis noticed something. This cat was as it was, but it also seemed to be a very helpful cat. This proved true on a day Tsukasa got lost on her way home. This cat came from who would know where, and led her home.
So this cat led a normal, but special life. It was a cat, and like all other animals, had innate senses that told it of when a disaster was to come. So even when they heard of a drought, this cat seemed odd to stay with the Hiiragis. The days that passed, however, were getting to be brutal searches for water by the city, until they finally had to cut back on water. This town did not go down, however, merely because of a drought. Instead, it stayed up merely because of a cat. A cat named Nyamo, who upon hearing of the town's plight, went to the dried river. Nyamo was not to be seen during this, and so the Hiiragis worried over him.
The next day, however, the drought ended with a massive rain, the river filling up again. The town was very happy over this, and the Hiiragis noticed something odd during all of this. In one of their shrines, a statue appeared with no figure, merely being a pedestal. It told of the values of helping those around you, and that you would be helped. On top of this statue pedestal, a picture of a cat was inscribed.
Authors Note: Sorry if this made little sense. It was my first one-shot, and being mythology related, I did my best to get something out. Review, enjoy, and have a good day.
