Chapter 1
"Hauntings and Death, To take one's last breath. It's what rumors say of us, covered in blood and puss."
"Dark Poetry? I like it Mari." Shadow whispered into her ear. Mari jumped at the sound.
"Don't do that!" Mari scolded. Shadow laughed.
"Where would you come up with such things?" Shadow asked as his laughter died out.
"I don't know."
Shadow raised an eyebrow. Mari always thought it was cute when he did that. She was also fascinated with his dark purple hair that fell down his back. He always wore a purple suit to match his hair, and a top hat, slightly tilted. His smile lit the room. Time seemed to slow down when they were together.
Mari looked away to hide her blush, and found herself in the mirror. Her long white hair was tied into ponytails. She wore a black t-shirt, that had white buttons. She wore a short black and white striped skirt and black tights. She wore white finger-less gloves too. Mari looked back at Shadow.
"Why did you come?"
"One, that's what she said. Two, because I wanted to know if you wanted a ride to school."
"Of course!"
She followed him out to his car. It was so black, but so shiny. It had a purple neon stripe down the sides. When he revved the engine, you could feel it from the sidewalk. Mari jumped in and set her purse on her lap. She flipped down the visor and opened the mirror. She rummaged through her purse for her black lipstick. She applied it as they sped down the road. She stopped for a second to admire his matching black lipstick. He now wore sunglasses, part of his usual outfit.
At school, they joined up with Eclipse, Shadow and Mari's best friend. They walked through the halls, ignoring the rumors and snotty remarks of high school students. During Lunch, the trio sat under the solar panels that powered the school. The shade was cool and, to them, perfect.
