"You must do everything in your power. What others cannot do, that is what you must do for-"
Mother?
I reached forward as the conversation cut off, trying to touch my mother, trying to reach out to hold her silky white hand.
Suddenly I felt like I was being pulled backwards, then I was somewhere else.
A room, a bedroom perhaps. There was girl sleeping there, in the bed, murmuring my name. Then giggling, rolling over and muttering about everything being 'too green'.
How did she know my name? Who was she? One thing I did know, though, was that she was the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on. Something about her aura was beautiful, not just her physical body.
The scenery changed and someone was coming towards me, but I couldn't see their face, just their body swaying hypnotically towards me. I felt like prey, like she was a cheetah or a Jaguar and she had chosen me too eat.
She stopped a centimetre away from my lips, which were tingling pleasantly at the close contact. Her eyes, which had been closed, opened slowly revealing two deep brown orbs that were the only thing I wanted to fall into. I felt myself getting lost in them, at their bottomless colour.
She smiled at me and my heart almost stopped completely.
"Edward" she whispered and I felt like the luckiest man in the world.
"Y-yes?" I stuttered, as she cocked her head to the side letting her long mahogany hair spill onto her shoulder and making me want, no, need to run my hands through it.
"You have to stay alive, for just a few more hours." What? "You will feel pain, and then nothingness, but wait for 88 years and your salvation will come."
She began to fade and I reached out in a futile attempt to hold onto her so that I could take her with me back home and lock her up so that she would be mine, only mine.
"Please! Don't leave! I don't want to be alone" I called brokenly.
"Shhhhh, love, its almost time…."
"Time for what?" I demanded, but she just smiled and stroked my cheek. I leaned into the touch but it was gone.
"Edward Anthony Masen Cullen, we will meet again" and she disappeared.
I was suddenly pulled back to the present, I was moving, no, I was being carried. I thought about Her, about her cryptic words and secret smiles and groaned.
I suddenly started to feel pain in my chest, wrists, ankles and neck.
Then the fire started…
