"The fuck?" muttered CIA agent Harvey Todd as he sat in front of his desk at Langley and rewound the last few seconds of his video feed.
"Whats up, Harvey?" came the voice of fellow agent Samantha from the other side of the cubicle wall.
"Dunno. Was calibrating the new spy sat on a base in japan. Got some kind of spike from the spy sat. not sure what it was." he said, as he pulled up the data in question.
"So, that's it?" Samantha said as she walked up to his desk and took a look at the data in question. "just send it over to the nerds and have them look at it."
"Yeah, I guess." Harvey said as he went back to the feed, cross referencing live radar data from a carrier in the sea of japan with the video.
"Hey wait, scroll down Harvey." Samantha said, leaning over his desk, her hair draped across his shoulder.
"Why?"
"That kid. Didn't you see that kid?"
"What kid?"
"scroll down. THAT kid. Jesus look at him go." Samantha said finally getting her way.
"Ran right up to that F-4." Harvey said, watching are rare moment of real time excitement in the other wise boring job.
"Whats this about an F-4?" said another agent as he left his desk to watch. Pretty soon half the office was watching.
"Were are the damn guards? You thing the Japs would have better security that this." some one muttered.
"If this keeps up im getting popcorn." came another.
"Hold on, there's the guards!"
"Ten bucks says the kid out runs them."
"Your on."
"Whoa, see the jet? He is starting it up."
"No way. He is a civvy, and a kid to boot."
"Tell that to the jet exhaust."
"Holy shit, its moving." some one yelled as the jet did an admittedly perfect taxi to the run way.
"Twenty says he crashes." Samantha muttered in his ear.
"That's so wrong." Harvey muttered back.
"Is that a no?"
"fuck. Fine." Harvey muttered back.
"there is goes, full after burners!"
"hold on guys. I gotta check this." some one yelled as they ran back to their desk. "yep, there he is, 90 knots and still accelerating. He is air borne!" he yelled as the office erupted in cheers.
"Where is this kid going?" Harvey asked him self, finally realizing there might be actual, real live work in this.
"he is just going up." Samantha said, moving back to her station, realizing the same thing.
"there he goes, pushing mach 1. straight in to the sun."
"Why? He is going to stall at this rate."
"Dunno, but he is still climbing like a motherfucker."
"Dumb ass must be blinded by the sun."
"Nope. See the shadow? Hes not in the sun. must be an eclipse or something."
"So the screwy kid just hops in to a fighter to see the eclipse?"
"guess so."
"Hey, there is that spike again." Harvey said as he focused on the readout, ignoring the screen. "Looks like some kind of weird EM-"
"Hes gone." Samantha said tonelessly.
"What do you mean gone?" Harvey said, bringing up the data feed. He rewound and tracked the rouge F-4 as it climbed into the solar eclipse and watched as it simply disappeared. Harvey watched it again, and again. Finally he sagged back into his chair.
"Definitely gotta call this one in."
20,000 thousand feet in the air, his body struggling against the G forces slamming into him, Saito Higara flew in to the solar eclipse until the tell tail green light pulled at him from the edges of his vision. Rolling the aircraft inverted, he looked down at the now familiar land scape of Halkeginia beneath him.
