Author's Notes: Man, it's been a while since I wrote something.
After coming home from a day of work, Chell settled down with her cup of tea in one hand and a stack of mail in the other on her kitchen table.
She lazily skimmed through the mail, already knowing what was in the pile; bills, flyers on political candidates for the upcoming election, store advertisements, and the usual newspaper she forgot to bring in earlier. Because she didn't have any long distance friends or any relatives, nothing surprised her.
Just as she was about to turn in for the night, a small envelope fell out of the newspaper. Printed on the plain white envelope was the familiar circular icon that she has long wish to have forgotten.
Memories started to flood back like a rushing river. Turrets shooting accurately in her direction. The smell of neurotoxin flooding her nose. And the two AIs that taunt her continuously during her mandatory stay in Aperture.
Though she had the immediate thought of disposing of the letter, the sense of curiosity overwhelmed her. Slowly, Chell opened and took out the letter with extreme caution.
To her surprise, there was only a regular letter. Taking the risk, she started to read its contents.
Greetings Test Subject!
This is Cave Johnson, CEO of Aperture Science. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for forwarding our cause of science by three centuries in your participation of our Dual Portal Device testing.
Because of your significant contribution to our program, we would like your continued support and participation in our new project which I like to call the "Perpetual Testing Initiative."
She quickly crumbled the letter, enraged and not wanting to read any further. Taking the envelope, a card gentle fell out with four words typed on it.
Picking it up and quickly skimming it, she felt her heart stop. Before she could distance herself from the card, Chell fell through a blue portal at her feet which quickly disappeared so after. All that was left was the card fluttering down, finding its way to the ground, displaying those four words.
Let the science begin.
A/N: Sorry if it's grammatically bad. It's been a long time since I written anything. If you have some advice of how I can improve, please PM me your advice. Thanks. :D
And I know the Perpetual Testing Initiative has been out for a very long time but I wrote this when it was new and it just got lost in a draft. After re-finding it in my notes on my iTouch, why not finally edit and publish it. (Random rambling ftw.) Well, better get back to paying attention to class.
