John sat on the bench waiting for the bus; he looked down the street and said, "Dave, I'm not really sure about your idea." Dave looked over to see John nervously fidgeting on the bench next to him. "C'mon Egbert, don't be lame, for once just forget about school and come with me," Dave said with a grin. John saw Dave flash his perfect and stunning smile, at that moment he knew it would be hard to turn him down. "I just don't really-""We're going John," Dave interrupted as he grabbed John's hand and pulled him off the bench. As soon as John and Dave almost lost sight of the bus stop the huge vehicle pulled up to an empty bench and drove away. John sighed and Dave looked at him, "Aren't you excited? Dude, you're finally ditching school for the first time!" John just crossed his shoulders and looked away. "Aww is little Egbert afraid of missing Algebra class? How adorable," Dave chuckled while he pinched John's cheeks. John blushed and asked, "Can you just tell me where we're going now? Didn't you say you wanted to do something special?" Dave thought for a moment and decided that he still wanted to keep it a surprise. "I'm afraid not," Dave said, "You'll just have to wait about ten more minutes and then you can see for yourself!" After around ten minutes past Dave sits down on a towel spread out a beach and says, "We're here!" John looked around to see a picnic basket full of delicious foods and drinks that were all of his favorites. "Really?" John said, "You made me ditch school today so I could have some sort of romantic lunch date picnic with you?" "Yeah, why not" Dave replied, "I mean, it isn't what you were expecting, was it? Then I guess it wouldn't really be too ironic of me." John sat down next to him and said, "Well no, I wasn't really expecting it at all. It's actually kind of nice I guess," John smiled as he took out a bottle of Apple Juice and handed it to Dave. They both proceeded to eat lunch and play different types of games on the beach until the sun started sinking lower in the sky. "Thanks for such an awesome day," John said while slowly sitting down on the dock next to Dave, "I usually don't really have anyone to do fun stuff with anymore. I mean, since my Dad died," At this point Dave watched John's face as a single tear rushed down his face and fell into the moonlit water. "I'm sorry Dave, I'm really sorry you have to see me like this, I should just go now," John said as he rapidly stood up and turned to leave. "John, don't leave," Dave said as he rushed to grab John's hand, "Stay here, it's okay, I understand what it's like to feel alone. And I just want you to know that you don't have to feel alone anymore. I'm here for you, you're my best friend John, and if you ever feel alone I'll always be here for you." Dave kissed John on the cheek and both of the boys looked at each other with tear filled eyes. Dave thought about how much John meant to him and grabbed him in his arms. And there they sat; watching the waves slowly hit the soft sand while they embraced each other.
