I want to start off by saying I AM SO SORRY. I wrote this when I was 13, maybe 14, and I kind of forgot about it. I recently logged in because of some newfound free time to read stories casually with this new time, and I was absolutely shocked by the response to this story. The writing absolutely is cringey, but I do have to give it to my young self for the plot. Therefore, I'm going to be rewriting and finishing this (I promise), if there's even a fan-base remaining. If not, they hey, it's here for anyone's enjoyment. Once again, please feel free to message, review, whatever. Thank you all, and young me also appreciates you all so much.
Chapter 1
Seth's POV
I used to loath patrols, and loath the concept of being a wolf. However, it was hard to loath the job on days like these. For one thing, the weather was finally turning around. Despite living in the rainiest place on Earth, the rain has been minimal over the past month, leaving me to enjoy the beach or just in general outdoor work with the rest of the pack. It was July, meaning I had no school requirements. After shifting for the first time, I tried dropping out. With the new job with the pack and my excessive absences because of said new job, it was hard for me to imagine being normal in any way, including attending school. But Sam was very insistent, and Jake backed him up with that decision, leaving me stuck. However, it was July, and I didn't have to worry about assignments or the stares from my classmates or even just waking up. I could spend the day out visiting the Cullens, running patrols, and waking up whenever the hell I wanted. Even further, for once in the pack's history, everyone was happy. Sam and Jake had made amends, Jake no longer sulked about Bella, Leah had adjusted fully to the pack and was even beginning to salvage her relationship with Emily, and besides the few annoying comments from Embry and Quil, patrols were peaceful and even relaxing.
Of course, it was in the middle of these thoughts that the peace always had to be interrupted by a wandering leech, most likely accidentally crossing onto our territory. I was besides the border to Forks when Embry interrupted my thoughts.
I'm catching a scent on the beach. Something is off. The beaches are filled with people day, and there's another smell there. Maybe he has a human.
I frowned and immediately let out a howl to warn the pack of the emergency. I then ran towards Embry's location, leaving the green flashes of trees beside me as my paws hit the coast's sand. I could immediately smell the invading vampire, but also a strange mix of seawater and something else, perhaps vanilla or maybe roses. The smell was addicting, something I had never smelled before in my life. Embry was already on the scene, growling at the leech. The man's expression almost resembled that of Paul on Friday's wing night, desperate and hungry for more. Despite Embry's threatening posture and claws, he gripped his prey closely to him, his hand tightly gripping her throat as she struggled and whimpered. I growled and felt a flash of rage as I heard her whimper. She seemed pretty banged up already, with her bright hair matted down by blood. He clearly tried hard to injure her enough to not put up a fight.
The man's fangs came out and hovered over her neck. I growled and walked closer to him, daring him to take a bite out of her. He threw her across the beach in response, and I could hear a sickening crack. My eyes then flashed red and I pounced on the leech, ignoring Embry's warning growl as I tore the vampire limb for limb. I didn't stop until Jake arrived and his commanding voice caused me to freeze in my place.
Enough, Seth. Return to the house now.
I was forced to comply, but not before looking back at the girl. She was laying in a heap on the beach. Her skin was tan, a trait uncharacteristic for the rainy weather of Washington. Her hair was that of a sun-kissed blonde, a trait I never thought I could find beautiful until now. I was filled with worry as I watched her labored breathing, and for some reason I felt this urge to get to her. I whimpered slightly, forcing Jake to cock his head in confusion.
I will take her to the Cullen's. You may come by shortly when you are dressed and calmed, as judged by Sam and Emily.
I sighed and nodded before racing back to Emily and Sam's house. Emily always kept clothes lying around outside, something I always appreciated and missed when Jake and I broke away temporarily. As I walked out of the tree line, Sam met me halfway.
"Embry called. He told me what happened. What's up, Seth?" he asked, passing me a sandwich Emily made.
I could barely respond without shaking. He held up his hand, as if to say later, and I quickly consumed the sandwich. He watched me carefully before nodding once I finished it. "Let's go. I'll take you over there, but you have to be calm. I mean it," he said sternly, almost taking an Alpha tone with me. I nodded and ran for the car, hopping into the passenger's seat before Sam could utter another word. I couldn't understand this concern I held or this desperation, but it seemed to consume me. I just knew I needed this girl to be alright.
