Summary: Over a year and a half has passed since the Time Lord's attempted to return. While Harry remains Prime Minister and Jack remains the leader of what has seemingly become a one-man operation as part of Torchwood, Tegan has taken up a position as a consultant for the CIA, and nobody has seen the Doctor in a year. When the 'Miracle Day' phenomenon occurs and forces the Torchwood team to reunite, will Tegan and the Doctor be able to coexist?

August 3rd, 2011 Harry Saxon stands in his office with his arms crossed, a TV remote in his right hand, looks to his left, and says, 'So, there has not been a recorded death of a human in over twenty-four hours. Somehow - something has made the human population immortal except for you who has coincidently become mortal. And, whatever is affecting the human population apparently does not in fact affect Time Lord's'. Jack stood with his arms crossed, leaning against the front of Harry's deck, and asked, 'Any ideas'? Harry shrugged and then said, 'Give it four months, Earth won't even be sustainable. With nobody able to die but babies still being born -' Harry shook his head. Jack asked cautiously, 'Would you object to calling Tegan back to Torchwood'? Harry shook his head again and then said, 'No, but I'll need to be the one to do it, with him consulting for the CIA - it will just be easier if the Prime Minister does it'. Jack asked cautiously, 'What about the Doctor'? Harry shook his head again and then said, 'I haven't seen him since he called me a year ago. He's still at the Hub, we both know that, but he's refused to leave the T.A.R.D.I.S. and as we are both sadly aware, not even your key gets that door open'. Jack said, 'Well then, you get Tegan recalled to Cardiff, and hopefully by the time he comes back, you and I can get the Doctor out of the T.A.R.D.I.S. to help deal with this Miracle Day bullshit'!

Half of an hour later, Tegan is standing with his arms crossed, and says angrily, 'You're fucking lying! If Harry really wanted me back at Torchwood, he would've called me himself'! Director Fredkin said impatiently, 'Mister Harkness, you work for us now, if you're to return to Cardiff - to Torchwood, it would have to be with my authorization. And while I respect that you're friends with Prime Minister Saxon, he knew that it would go faster if he just went through me'. Tegan said angrily, 'Well, you can call him back and tell him to go to hell! If he doesn't even care enough to ask me himself, then why the fuck should I go'?

Rex Matheson, a CIA agent who had become Tegan's friend after he'd initially been ordered to keep an eye on the Time Lord, just shook his head. He didn't know what had happened in Cardiff that had Tegan taking an indefinite leave of absence from Torchwood or why Tegan would willingly come to the US despite his admitted disdain for the country but he had watched as Tegan's aggression toward - everyone, just seemed to grow.

Fifteen minutes later, Harry sat in his chair, leaning forward with his face in his hands, and Jack asked cautiously, 'That bad'? Harry lowered his hands and then said in disbelief, 'Tegan won't come'. Jack asked confused, 'Why not? He said he would if we really -' Harry interrupted by saying, 'He's angry that I didn't ask him myself'. Jack asked concerned, 'Do you plan too? If you don't want to, I can'. Harry shook his head and then said - sounding defeated, 'I don't even know if it would be a good idea. I've kept in contact with him but he's gotten so angry at - at everyone. I thought - I hoped that being back here - well, back at the Hub - back at Torchwood would help, but I fucked up, and Tegan has had so little forgiveness in his hearts since he left - I don't even know if asking him directly would even work, now'. Jack asked confused, 'What the hell happened between him and the Doctor? You've never told me'. Harry shook his head and then said, 'It doesn't matter'. Jack said angrily, 'Dammit, Koschei! Tegan's my son'! Harry lowered his head and then said, 'When the Doctor called me last July - after I got there, he asked - more like begged - for Tegan. I tried getting Tegan to come but he outright refused - he wouldn't even let me explain why. When I had to explain that, it broke him in a way that I'd never seen'. Jack asked angrily, 'But, what happened'? Harry looked at Jack and said, 'He was angry and scared and when he's like that, it's really best to leave him alone, but Tegan didn't and got punched for it'. Jack said confused, 'There's got to be more to be'. Harry shook his head and then said, 'Not that I've heard'.

Jack didn't understand, he knew Tegan and Tegan did not get and stay angry - it just wasn't in Tegan's brain chemistry. He had hated the Doctor for years before they met but he'd never really been angry at him during those years. Jack wondered what kind of man - what kind of father it made him to understand the Doctor's reaction better then his own sons.

Rex asked, 'Tegan'? Tegan asked tiredly, 'What do you want, Rex'? Rex asked carefully, 'Why not just go to the Torchwood Hub and find out if Harry really did ask for you to go back or not? It would take - what, two minutes'? Tegan smirked and asked, 'You want to go and check out the Hub'? Rex said, 'I'd need a passport'. Tegan snickered and then said, 'Stop thinking like CIA! You can be there and back before anybody would even miss you'.

An hour later, Jack and Harry stood facing each other in the center of the Hub. Tegan stood with his arms crossed with Rex to his right and Tegan asked angrily, 'So, was it Harry or papa that called you'? The Doctor stood in front of Tegan - although he was also to Jack's left and Harry's right and said, 'Tegan, if you would just let me explain'. Tegan shouted angrily, 'You fucking hit me! What's there to explain'? The Doctor said, 'Tegan -' Tegan interrupted by saying angrily, 'I really don't want to hear your bullshit, Doctor'! The Doctor tried again, 'Tegan -' Tegan interrupted by saying angrily, 'And, the only reason you're sorry is because I left'. The Doctor said desperately, 'I was scared and I was angry'! Tegan asked, 'Why'? The Doctor asked carefully, 'Do you remember what Rassilon said about you procreating'? Tegan rolled his eyes and then said annoyed, 'You already thought I was his son. Being his child or his genetic clone, his bloodline would continue either way'. The Doctor said, 'Yes, and that's why when I actually thought about it - after Harry had called me a coward - that I realized how much a mistake striking you had been'. Tegan asked curiously, 'What made you a coward? You're a bastard for hitting me but that's still not cowardice'.

The Doctor looked at Rex and asked, 'How much do you know about Time Lord biology'? Rex said cautiously, 'Two hearts, lower body temperature, able to survive some typically fatal falls, and an allergy to aspirin. Time Lord's can also go through a process called regeneration. You and the Master are touch telepaths while Tegan doesn't require touch'. The Doctor asked, 'And, what do you know about reproduction'? Rex said cautiously, 'Natural births work the same as humans while there's also another form called looming'. Tegan said, 'As much as this diversionary tactic is entertaining, you haven't answered my question, Doctor'.

The Doctor looked at Tegan and asked - letting a hint of pleading into his voice, 'Can we talk alone'? Tegan said angrily, 'No'. The Doctor said, 'If you'll just come onboard the T.A.R.D.I.S., you'll understand'. Tegan said angrily, 'The answer is no'! The Doctor said, 'Tegan -' Tegan interrupted by asking angrily, 'Why the hell would I ever want to be alone with you again'? The Doctor shook his head, unbuttoned the suit jacket, gripped the dress shirt in his right hand causing the jacket to slip back, and yanked the right side of the shirt up. Tegan blinked a couple times and then asked confused, 'How'd you get the scar'? The Doctor released his grip on the shirt, glanced at Rex who was seemingly deep in thought before returning his attention to Tegan, and asked, 'Do you know what I was going to tell you before Harry got kidnapped and everything went to hell'? Tegan shook his head and confused, 'No. I remember you saying that there was something you wanted to tell me but you wanted to wait until Harry showed up so that everyone could just find out all at the same time'. Rex asked carefully, 'Have you always been a man'?

Harry and Jack's heads both snapped toward Rex - they were surprised by his bluntness. Tegan swallowed, about choking on his own spit. The Doctor looked at Rex and said, 'Yes. This is my tenth body but I've always been a man'. Rex said, 'That's odd'. The Doctor asked curiously, 'Why is that odd? It's not unheard of but it is uncommon for a Time Lord or Time Lady to actually change sexes during regeneration'. Tegan rolled his eyes and asked irritated, 'Can we just deal with this whole nobody-can-die shit so we can all just back to our lives'? The Doctor looked at Tegan and asked, 'You never are going to forgive me, are you'? Tegan said angrily, 'Give me one damn reason why I should'! The Doctor finally having had enough of Tegan's anger answered back with anger, 'Because I was fucking pregnant'! Tegan asked surprised, 'What'? The Doctor said angrily, 'That's what I was going to tell you that day'! Harry turned his head to look at Tegan and said, 'That's why I called you last July'. Tegan looked at Harry and asked confused, 'Why July'? The Doctor said, 'Because, I wanted you there - I wanted you to see our child - our daughter'.

Rex was open-minded where aliens were concerned but this was too much!

Tegan stared at the Doctor for a few seconds before asking, 'What did you name her'? The Doctor said, 'I thought about something Gallifreyan but considering Harry, Jack, and I are the only ones to even understand the language - not even you can - I decided on something a little more English - or more precisely, Welsh. Her name is Taffy'. Before Tegan had a chance to comment on that, Jack started laughing, then Rex asked, 'Isn't that more of a nickname'? And, Harry said, 'You and your damn sweet tooth'! Tegan looked at Harry and said, 'Actually, Taffy is a name - it can be either Welsh or Scottish by my understanding'. Then he looked at Rex and added, 'But yes, it's more common as a nickname'.

When Tegan started walking toward Jack's office, Jack asked curiously, 'Where are you going'? Tegan stopped, turned around, and said, 'Well, I figure the child in still in the T.A.R.D.I.S., so that's where I'm going'. Turning back around, Tegan started walking toward Jack's office again. The Doctor followed Tegan. Jack shrugged before he followed the Doctor. Harry shook his head, looked at Rex, and said, 'Welcome to Torchwood, Agent Matheson', before following Jack. Rex followed Harry.

Stepping into the T.A.R.D.I.S., Tegan wondered why the lights seemed dimmer, he turned toward the Doctor, and asked, 'Why are the lights -' The Doctor interrupted by saying, 'She put herself into standby mode after I hit you. She's only come out once and that was July 17th of last year'. Harry said concerned, 'But, standby mode almost completely severs the constant connection between T.A.R.D.I.S. and pilot'. The Doctor looked at Harry and said, 'Yes, it does'. Harry hesitated for a few seconds before asking carefully, 'Were you even on medication'? Tegan looked at Harry and asked confused and concerned, 'Medication for what'? The Doctor asked irritated, 'How would I have been? She wouldn't even let me into the damn Med-bay until the baby was ready to come out'! Harry said concerned, 'But, that's dangerous'! Tegan asked, 'What are you two talking about'? Harry looked at Tegan and said, 'It's complicated. For a natural born male Gallifreyan - there are a few changes that go on inside the body during the average eight to ten months and some of them can be damn near fatal without medication to help deal with the pain'. The Doctor said, 'Yes and then what took five plus months to happen only takes hours to reverse which is excruciating'! Harry said, 'And, most of the changes don't even make sense due to the simple fact that like 51st century human males, the child has to be removed via c-section'! The Doctor said, 'I'll say the same thing I did when we were still Theta and Koschei, I think they either fucked up the gene or never finished it'! Tegan asked curiously, 'How'? Harry said, 'Because, almost everything that happens inside the body would be to prepare for a natural birth, except -' The Doctor interrupted by saying, 'Except after the hips split, nothing else happens so it's simply a problem of -' Harry interrupted by saying, 'Not having the right parts for the process to meet its completion'.

Tegan, Jack, Harry, and Rex followed the Doctor out of the console room, into the corridor, and turned into the room - second on the right, that looked like a playroom with a white crib up against the left wall. Tegan watched as the Doctor reached down and picked Taffy up, figuring Taffy's laughter either meant she was happy or she was ticklish. The Doctor turned back to the group, Taffy was wearing a red dress with white sleeves, and while it was apparent that she'd taken primarily after the Doctor even in regards to eye color and a hint of freckles, Tegan couldn't resist asking, 'Ginger'? The Doctor shook his head, laughed, and then said, 'Yup, couldn't make myself ginger even with nine regenerations, and yet, Taffy ends up ginger'! Harry asked smugly, 'Jealous of your own daughter'? The Doctor said trying not to laugh again, 'Maybe a little'. Tegan asked confused, 'How is that even possible that's she's ginger when you've never been and I'm not'? The Doctor half-shrugged and then said, 'It's one of the odder bits of Gallifreyan biology'. Tegan asked carefully, 'When will we know if she took after you or me with her telepathy'? The Doctor looked at Harry and Harry said, 'Typically, the child is four to five, but some show signs as young as three, others as old as seven'.

A few minutes passed before Rex asked carefully, 'So, how are we going to work this? Torchwood jointly with the CIA or -' Jack interrupted by saying, 'Torchwood has done a few joint operations, they never end well for either side'. Rex said, 'Torchwood is not doing this on their own'! Jack said irritated, 'We're not working with the CIA'! Rex said, 'Look, you're Torchwood, you have the most experience with strange phenomenon like this, I won't argue with this, so if Torchwood wants to take the lead, fine, but we - the CIA will be involved'! Jack looked at Harry and Harry said, 'Jack, at least try working with them'. Jack growled, 'Fine'! Tegan asked, 'Are we working this here or there'? Harry said, 'I would prefer it being worked here because I can't get involved if you go to the US'. Jack said, 'I would prefer us working it here as well'. Rex said, 'I think it would be best to work it in the States'. Tegan said carefully, 'I have to agree with Rex'. Harry looked at the Doctor and asked, 'And, what would you prefer'? The Doctor said, 'I would prefer staying here because there's no documentation about Taffy but I'll go wherever Tegan decides'. Harry said, 'Well then, everybody pack your bags, you're bound for the US! I'll do what I can from London'.

Rex and Tegan didn't have to pack anything because their belongings were already in the US. Jack made a quick jump to London to pack a few belongings since he'd started staying more with Harry due to the increased inactivity of the Rift after the return of the 456 and the attempted return of the Time Lord's. And, Harry somehow ended up getting volunteered as Taffy's babysitter.

The Doctor stood in his walk-in closet and while he'd already packed six duplicates of the suit he was wearing, he wondered if he should pack anything else. He couldn't think of a country on Earth that didn't sell bananas of some sort but maybe some sunflower seeds in case where he ended up in didn't carry the brand and flavors he liked? And, just on the safe side in case this whole Miracle Day fiasco couldn't be dealt with quickly, maybe some bananas anyways? And, on the idea of how quickly Miracle Day took to resolve, while he knew the mineral water he'd taken a liking to was sold in the US, maybe packing a supply wouldn't hurt. What else? Maybe switching his shoes for something a little more durable, they weren't ideal for running to begin with and depending on terrain and all that - definitely switch shoes.

Tegan knew the concept of 'bigger on the inside' didn't just apply to the T.A.R.D.I.S. but it could also be applied to pockets and as he was learning as he watched the Doctor pack close to what some people - humans - would consider a lifetime supply of sunflower seeds and mineral water, apparently that could be applied to courier bags as well. Tegan was surprised when the Doctor switched out of his dress shoes and ended up trying on trying on several different kinds of shoes and boots until Tegan figured out he was trying to find something that was both durable and had a good grip and that was when Tegan said carefully, 'Maybe tennis shoes or boots like mine'. Tegan decided not to comment on the hilarity of the converse that the Doctor finally settled on after a pile had developed from the rejects that was would have come up to Tegan's mid-thigh.

Once it became apparent that the Doctor had packed everything he could have possibly wanted or needed - clothes, a couple spare pairs of shoes; enough bananas, sunflower seeds, and mineral water to keep a small army fed and hydrated probably for several months; his sonic screwdriver with a couple added modifications, several shelves of books from the T.A.R.D.I.S. library, and an iPod and earbuds that Tegan was almost positive actually belonged to Harry - Tegan said trying not to laugh, 'I understand the boy scout idea of being prepared but come on! You've packed enough stuff for a small army'! The Doctor looked at Tegan and said, 'I'm not used to spending extended periods of time away from my T.A.R.D.I.S. even when she's mad at me, I'm just wanting to make sure I have everything'. Tegan asked smiling, 'The kitchen sink perhaps'? Tegan could tell by the look on the Doctor's face that he didn't get the joke, deciding to change the subject, Tegan said, 'There is one thing you are forgetting though'. The Doctor asked curiously, 'What'? Tegan said, 'A shave'. The Doctor asked confused, 'Huh'? Tegan grabbed the Doctor's left forearm with his right hand and said, 'Come on'.

The Doctor offered no resistance to Tegan, allowing him to lead him to the mirror in the bathroom, and Tegan asked the reflection of the Doctor, 'See'? Tegan stood back as the Doctor shaved and Tegan realized that despite all his own anger that he'd actually missed the Doctor. After the Doctor had finished, he looked at Tegan, and said, 'At least now, I don't look like someone trying out for the role of hobo'. Tegan laughed, stepped up to stand in front of the Doctor, and asked, 'Once this whole Miracle Day situation is dealt with, do you - I mean, would you want to give us another try'? The Doctor asked curiously, 'What does this very odd - albeit intriguing - event have to do with giving us another try'? Tegan, instead of answering, put the index and middle fingers of his left hand up to the Doctor's lips and said, 'Open up'. The Doctor knew it was a bad idea to do as Tegan said but he did it anyways. There was no way he would admit or could put into words how much he'd missed Tegan and at that moment, he couldn't think of a damn thing he wouldn't have done upon Tegan's say-so/order. Tegan slipped his index and middle fingers into the Doctor's mouth and upon finding the spot of the roof of the Doctor's mouth that felt like a blister but really contained a bundle highly sensitive nerves that was good for several things - all of which were of a sexual nature - teasing was Tegan's favorite though - he began moving his fingers back and forth over the spot.

Harry - holding Taffy, Jack standing to Harry's left, and Rex standing across the corridor from Harry and Jack, and Rex asked, 'Was it my imagination or did the corridor just change'? Harry said, 'The T.A.R.D.I.S. is a living ship, Agent Matheson'. Jack said, 'Sometimes, she'll do that if she's being - for lack of a better word, playful. Sometimes, she'll do that because her pilot, the Doctor, wants her too. And other times, she'll do that because someone else she likes asks her too'. Harry said, 'Like Tegan or Jack. Whether she would or not for me is a fifty-fifty chance either way'.

Half an hour later, Tegan, the Doctor, Jack, Harry, Rex, and Taffy were all in the Torchwood SUV - Jack's driving having oddly improved - on their way to the airport. Once Tegan, the Doctor, Jack, and Rex had been dropped off, Harry would drive himself and Taffy to London where he would leave Taffy on the Saxon Estate while he returned to his station as Prime Minister. Tegan heard the helicopter but didn't think much of it, it hadn't been the first time he'd heard a helicopter while in a vehicle, but it was always a bit strange.

A few seconds passed before Harry shouted, 'Everyone, get down'! There was no question, Tegan, Harry, and Rex all leaned as far down as they could, the Doctor quickly grabbing Taffy before doing the same, and Jack leaned as far to the left as he could, only what seemed like a split second before the gunshots began and while everyone was grateful for the vehicles bullet-resistance, it became quite terrifying when the SUV flipped multiple times, in part due to the fact that Jack hadn't hit the brakes when Harry had shouted.

Seconds or minutes passed - the Doctor blinked several times before sitting up and looking down - well, despite the fact that the SUV had landed on its roof and being upside-down could be a bit confusing for the ups and downs. He was glad that Taffy was unharmed but now, the problem was going to be getting out of the SUV. Was whoever had shot at them out that? Wouldn't that be silly though? Did they even know that Tegan and Harry hadn't been affected by Miracle Day and that Jack's immortality had been reversed? Did they know that he and Taffy hadn't been affected by Miracle Day, either? Looking to his left, he could see blood on Tegan's head - it was probably fairly superficial though, Time Lord's bones were typically stronger then humans and concussions were fairly rare. Looking to the seat in front of Tegan, he noticed it was empty, that wasn't right! Where the hell was Harry?

It took some careful maneuvering on the Doctor's part to get unbuckled and get onto the roof - which had become more of a dented floor - without landing on his head or losing his grip on Taffy. It became quickly obvious why Harry hadn't been in his seat, he'd gotten his bearings back before the Doctor had. Harry was up toward the front sitting next to Jack who had already gotten out of his seat as well. Rex sitting pretty much where he had been just on the roof instead of hanging upside-down in his seat. The Doctor whispered, 'Why hasn't anyone gotten out'? Harry whispered, 'Because, they're waiting on us'. Jack whispered, 'And, they don't think we're stupid enough to stay in here when we're obviously leaking petrol'.

Tegan shook his head and besides quickly realized that was a mistake, he just as quickly maneuvered out of his seat on onto the roof. Having Taffy thrust into his unexpecting arms was a bit of a surprise but when the Doctor moved toward the side window that the Doctor had been closest too before the accident, Harry whispered irritated and slightly concerned, 'What the hell are you doing'? The Doctor whispered, 'Something only a Time Lord can do but wouldn't do because we value our long lives so much but that's not a concern for me'. Despite almost all the windows being cracked to some degree, it took a few good shots with his feet to knock the window completely out.

Harry was trying to think what the Doctor could have possibly been talking about. Something only a Time Lord can do but wouldn't do because it - it drains their life force? He knew of one thing but that was a taboo that not even the craziest Time Lord's would offend because it could just as easily kill the Time Lord doing it.

The Doctor climbed out of the SUV and stood up, not exactly surprised by the three men in body armor and aiming their rifles at him. The Doctor asked curiously, 'So, this is the Miracle Day phenomenon, everybody has become immortal, and you're going to try to shoot - kill me'? The Doctor smirked and said smugly, 'Go ahead and try'. The shots rang out and in the same moment, the Doctor disappeared before reappearing standing within inches of the small group, kicking the man in the middle in the chest before pinning him down with his right foot and saying angrily, 'I'd advise you to stay down'! Then grabbing the remaining two men by their throats with his hands and asked curiously, 'Do any of you know one of the reasons we're called Time Lord's? One of the reasons we were considered Lord's of Time? We don't just travel time, we can control it but at a typically heavy cost'.

Tegan was wide-eyed as he watched the two men that the Doctor had hold of turn to dust and bones.

The Doctor then reached down and put his right hand around the remaining mans throat and said smugly, 'Call me the Doctor. Call me the Executioner. Hell, for all I care, you can call me the Valeyard'! Forcing the man up to his feet, the Doctor then said angrily, 'But know this, you threatened my daughter, you threatened my lover, and you threatened my friends. You get no second chances for that'!

After Tegan, Harry, Jack, and Rex had gotten out of the overturned SUV, Tegan asked confused, 'What did you do'? The Doctor turned to Tegan and said, 'It's a trick that all Time Lord's are capable of doing that allows them to speed up time for anyone or anything they touch but it's not advisable because it's typically just as fatal for the Time Lord'. Jack asked curiously, 'How did you disappear'? The Doctor looked at Jack and said, 'A similar trick, you just slow down time inside a bubble and due to your own immunity to it, you can seemingly move faster then you really are'. Jack looked at Harry and said smirking, 'You've done that before with me when we -' Harry interrupted Jack by elbowing him hard in his left side.

Author's Note 1: I'm pretty sure I have the date of the beginning of Miracle Day offset a bit, but that's simply because the Prime Minister would've been elected in either June or July of 2011, and I just really wanted to skip that.

Author's Note 2: It's strange, going back to look, Season One was a lot more focused on Doctor Who while Season Two focused a lot more on Torchwood and Season Three is obviously going to be too because Miracle Day is going to take up 10 of the 13 Episodes. I'm still at a complete loss as to what to do with the remaining 3.

Author's Note 3: I really don't have any plans for a Season Four, so unless I can figure out a workable idea, this will be the last Season.
