I`m lonely. There, I`ll admit it. I miss Nephthys. It's hard living down the hall from her. I have to fight the urge to run down the hall and knock on her door.

I was on my way to lunch when something crashed into me. It was Ammit the Devourer.

"Hey Ammit." I said, rubbing behind his ear. When someone came around the corner calling for Ammit, I expected it to be Anubis or Osiris.

It was Nephthys.

"Ammit!" she called. Ammit squirmed in my arms.

"Set." Nephthys said when she noticed me. We just stared at each other.

I let Ammit go. He ran into Nephthys`s arms. It was an awkward silence. I had to break it.

"How have you been, Nephthys?" I asked. "Good. I learned a new trick with water." she said. We just stared at each other again.

"I`m sorry." We said at the same time. My cheeks were turning bright red. So were hers.

"Would you like to see the trick tomorrow?" Nephthys asked. I nodded. "That would be nice." I said. We stared at each other again. She looked beautiful. Her raven locks were pulled back into a bun and her blue eyes were stunning. She was wearing a gorgeous navy blue dress with a silver sash.

I focused on the green carpet. Looking into her eyes reminded me of how I betrayed her. Nephthys had married a monster. I`d hurt her. Nephthys walked closer to me. There were tears coming from her eyes, running down her cheeks. "Nephthys…" I whispered.

She hugged me. She buried her face in my chest and cried. I held her close. I had let her go once, but I'd rather die than lose her again. She pulled back and looked me in the eyes. I remembered how I used to spy on her when I was younger. I would sit in the bushes and take in her beauty.

People thought it was cute back then. I think they`d call me a stalker if I did it now.

Nephthys kept apologizing about betraying me. After her fifth apology, I had enough. I leaned down and kissed her. When I pulled back, her eyes were wide.

"You have nothing to be sorry about." I said. I wiped away her tears. "There`s no need to cry over a monster." I whispered. "You`re not a monster Set, you`re my husband." she said. "Maybe we can give this another try." I said. She nodded. "I would like that." she said. "I lost a friend because of my bitterness." I mumbled.

"Set, I knew something like this would happen the moment I married you. You are the god of evil. The only friend you lost was Ra, and that was because he was banished. You never lost me." Nephthys said. She always knew how to lift my spirits.

"Why do you have Ammit?" I asked. "Osiris wanted me to watch him." she said. "Thank you for catching him." she smiled at me. Her smile is my favorite thing about her. It's so full of joy and love. I give her a genuine smile. I reach for her bun.

"What are you doing?" Nephthys asked.

I took the bun out. Her raven locks spill out over her shoulders. She wore her hair down all the time before I betrayed her. She smiled again. "You`re starting to look like yourself again." I said.

"I`m missing one thing though." she said. "What`s that?" I asked. She took my hand and held it. "You." she said. Together, we walked to lunch.

I know from memory that it takes me 24 steps to get from my door to hers. Today we took one step in the right direction.

23 more and I'll be at her door.

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
