If Museum Heist becomes canon, it might mean I own Young Justice. As you can see, it's not.
When Zatara surprised Zatanna with the tickets to Haley's Circus, she couldn't have been happier.
She had a big birthday party with streamers and balloons and cake and ice cream and all those things for a party, with all her friends invited. She got stuff like a tea party set and some My Little Pony figures, but the best part was after the whole thing. Her dad flashed a pair of tickets in her face and she actually squealed.
Always was a circus fan.
She was maybe five or six at the time, and the youth just fed the excitement bubbling in her gut. She was hoping to see magicians, as there were rumors about really good ones at this particular circus. To her delight, she wasn't disappointed.
Zatanna was dazzled by the tricks they were able to pull off, even if it didn't help her powers mature, it was perfectly fit for her entertainment. It was okay, that would just have to wait until she was older.
But that wasn't even the best part. There was the popular "save the best for last" that she always heard, but this really took the cake (she always thought of this act when she heard the saying). Her popcorn and cotton candy were left forgotten on her dad's lap as she just stared at the performers at the top of the platform, barely brushing against the top of the tent.
"Ladies and gentlemen- I give you... the Flying Graysons!" After this experience, she never saw acrobatics or simply just flips and tricks the same again. She just compared everyone to them, no one could match up to their skill.
The way they cut through the air with such ease, flipping and twisting with no fear showing, it was as if they were flying. What really mesmerized her was the young boy, almost her age, yet he kept up with his parents without breaking a sweat. It was simply amazing. Now this was magic. Better than anything she had seen before.
After the show came the real treat. She kind of sort of snuck off without her dad knowing (so maybe he did freak out) and met the flying boy, Richard. Zatanna still kept the autograph she got from him in the bottom drawer in an airtight plastic bag.
Zatanna was awed as she took in the features of the mountain. A boy clad in red and black, Robin, rushed up to her as the Martian girl was starting to introduce herself.
"Robin! I mean... I'm Robin." Something about him seemed familiar somehow.
The kidnapping? Almost nothing she had experienced had ever been as awesome as that. But Robin... his flips and shit... she remembered everything. How she compared him to the Flying Graysons all those years ago- and discovered that their moves were exactly the same, except with some fighting skills tapped into there. Even the ages lined up perfectly.
Robin was Richard Grayson. She confronted him with the fact, and he did admit it. They both could recall their first meeting at the circus those seven years ago. That was their own secret, though, one that was kept until their dying day.
"We have a history."
I'll admit that this was really rushed and not my best work but...
