Disclaimer: I do not own! XD And the next chapter of CYHI will come out as soon as my beta looks it over. :) And this is a tad late since earth hour was forever ago. You know, that day the shut off all the power of national monemunts and stuff. :)
Earth Hour
The lights were off; the candles flickering.
As homework for his biology class, Jake had to participate in Earth Hour. Since he had a low C in that class, he felt it was best if he took an hour out of his Saturday to turn off the dumb lights. He then ran across the possibility of there being a problem of no lights. So, the Asian boy called his best friends in search of candles (Hailey and Mom's made his sneeze uncontrollably) and after a moment of thought, Jake asked his best friend Spud to spend the night to lift boring boredom.
His room felt uncomfortably warm with the dozen plain white tea lights.
When Jake had explained his assignment to Spud (Spud was in the Honors Chemistry after much prodding and pushing), Spud had proposed they got into the full spirit of Earth Hour. They ended up turning off all the computers, TVs, cell phone chargers and clocks. Jake had sighed, but he was quick to do as he was told. Together, with a book of matches, Spud and he lit all twelve of the tiny white candles Spud had brought along with him.
Time stilled and seemed to just hang in the glowing room.
At first, they were at a loss of what to do for the hour of darkness. But by settling on the floor, the two found something to do. They talked until their normal tones were reduced into breathy whispers. Their words did not seem to matter in the slightest; they seemed to weave in and out of each other as soon as they were said. Jake wondered when was the last time him and Spud had talked about the day they met.
He could feel the other boy's breathe on his face; he felt a stirring in his stomach and his mouth went dry.
It was not until they had laughed long and loud – until the tears had come – that Jake wondered how he would know if Earth Hour was over if the clocks were unplugged. In the silence that had crept upon them, Jake looked at his friend. Spud's golden brown hair was free from his usual beanie and was tousled in every which way. The freckles Jake knew to be there had merged into his face in the amber like light. He felt his eyes drawn back to Spud's lips. They were red and chapped and Jake had the random thought that Spud was nervous. What could he be nervous about?
He watched in rapt attention as he swallow – watching his friend's Adam's apple bob.
It had happened without his permission. He had been leaning over Spud to tell him something, but then he was right underneath Jake and his lips looked so invitingly, his eyes dark and unreadable. Jake barely brushed his lips against Spud's, but it felt wonderful like a million of fairies dancing on his skin.
Hungrily, he consumed the boy like the flame was consuming the wick besides them.
He didn't even know what to do and yet that didn't seem to matter. His hands crept under the long sleeve shirts and helped pull them off. Jake marveled for a moment at the smooth skin that now rested under his hands. When he touched Spud, he felt like his finger tips were burning in pleasant numbness. Spud made a throaty sound and moved his hips up to meet Jake's. He wondered dimly when the idea of getting on top of Spud seemed like a good idea, but then Spud moved his hips again just so and he burned inside out.
Saving the planet was definitely a worthy activity; Jake decided when he fell against Spud in stupor. He shook hard as his breath was released after what seemed like hours.
And they stayed in the timeless dark.
