AN: Just a little drabble I couldn't get out of my head and couldn't fit into the next installment of my little post DMC/AWE story(ies). Because of the whole POV thing. "Without Ever Firing A Shot" is the first and as yet only one posted of them, but ah, well. Sigh. Can go with the upcoming epic line of stories, but can also be a standalone. Hope you like.
Disclaimer: I don't even own a jar of dirt. Disney even owns that. How much does that suck?
Making a PointThe blasted compass has been spinning, spinning, and he thinks maybe it is broken, because suddenly it isn't working for Elizabeth either (and all she wants is to save dear William the Whelp and go back home after clearing their names and absolving themselves from piracy via Cutler damn Beckett). So finally, after crossing by him more times than he can count, she sits, defeated, and throws the compass to the side. It's only then that the arrow stops swiveling every time he looks at it, pointing straight at her. Lizzie, as he's starting calling her (and she's not exactly protesting this adventure around, is she?). He tells her to get up, and as she moves he kicks the compass closed, pretending not to notice that as soon as her position changes, the arrow can't decide it's heading anymore. He promises himself it's the chest he wants, and it's got to be here. He hopes. It isn't until he sees Norrington's surprised look at hearing the 'thunk' of wood against wood that he realizes that the arrow might have been making a point (Ha. Ha. he thinks. Arrow. Point. Cute little ditty, there.) in stopping where Elizabeth and the chest were. Not really that much of a coincidence at all, then. He shoots Elizabeth a look as they all bend toward the chest, and he hears the heart.
Thump, thump. He can smell that bit of cleanliness and exotic flowers wafting off dear Lizzie's (has he always held her a little bit dear? Gah, he thinks. Don't answer that) still-too-clean-for-a-pirate hair, and thinks maybe Davy Jones has the right idea. Matters of the heart really do make a disaster of the whole piracy bit.
