She stared around at her little weapon tree, a hollow tree inside which she stored her gear. Hanging on a hook was her bow and arrows. A hole dug into the wall contained a dagger, a pair of earrings, and a black hoodless tunic, along with a belt and a crude dagger sheath. On yet another hook, a large sword rested. It gleamed, except for the tip which was covered with crusted blood. With a swipe of her tunic, she cleaned the blade.
She turned, reaching into the hole. She removed the belt, her earrings, and the dagger. She slipped on the earrings, tugged on her tunic, put on the belt, and fitted the dagger into the belt. She then stepped outside.
Little clouds of fog and mist hung feet, sometimes inches, from the ground. It was pitch black, the middle of the night. Crackly fallen leaves lined the foresty trail. Careful not to make too much noise from stepping on the fallen leaves, she leapt onto the trail as soon as she could. She walked up the roughly beaten trail, towards the forks that she knew. She knew the trail so well, she could have walked it in her sleep. She took left fork, the way she always went when she needed to go to the river, where she knew Water Dumples slumbered at night and fed on Wogpoles at day.
As she approached the river, she saw a large patch of fallen leaves between herself and the soft silent grass. She cautiosly leapt across the leaves onto the grass. Each blade bent due to the wait of tiny drops of water from the drizzle earlier that evening. They appeared to be bowing to a king.
She observed the Water Dumples, suctioned to the riverbed, slumbering. She considered it before dismissing the idea. No,they are not the enemies, she thought. Not right now. Cautiously she waded across the river. As she reached the opposite bank, she looked up. Instantly her heart pounded. Just seventy-five feet away from her was a huge Red Spotty Bulborb. Wait, she thought: Bulborbs have terrible eyesight. What if he hasn't seen me yet? Too late. The Bulborb had already seen the blurry yellow spot on the horizon. And he had already smelled-meat. The Bulborb let out a roar and charged at her. The Pikmin rushed towards him. When they were barely ten feet away from each other the Pikmin threw her dagger. The creature let out a dying roar and keeled over. The Pikmin approached the carcass. Removing the dagger, she wiped it on her tunic. She considering sheathing the weapon, but decided better of it. Bulborbs live in packs.
