"Spike, I'm home!" called Twilight Sparkle, slamming the door behind her.
He glanced up at Twilight from where he was sitting, reading a book. A real book with words and everything!
"Oh, hey Twi- Twilight! You're home! You said you wouldn't be home until three!" he said quickly, hiding the book behind his back.
"Oh Spike, it is three! Wow, that book must be pretty interesting to make you lose track of time like that. What book is it anyways?" she asked as she began walking towards him.
"Oh, nothing! It's nothing. Nope. Nothing at all. Just something I borrowed from... Applebloom. It's about... apples."
"Apples, hmm?" said Twilight skeptically.
"Yep. Apples. Oh, don't you have that thing at Fluttershy's?" he said, obviously trying to change the subject.
"That's not till tomorrow Spike, you know that!"
"Oh, right. Well, you know what sounds good? Cupcakes. Doesn't that sound good? Why don't you go to Sugarcube Corner and get some, and I'll just tidy up around here, hmm?" He said, nervously scratching his neck and continuing to hide the book behind his back.
"I guess cupcakes sound fine..." she said awkwardly.
"Cool, awesome! See you later!" he said, jumping up and throwing the book behind him, practically sprinting to the door to open it for her. She walked out slowly, looking at him confusedly. "Take your time!" he shouted, slamming the door behind her just as her tail whisked outside after her.
I wonder what it is that Spike wants to hide from me so badly... She pondered as she walked towards the residence of the pony with the cotton candy mane. Although, I suppose he is growing up. Maybe I don't want to know what he was reading. She blushed at the thought of what could have been in the book, and quickened her pace. Maybe I'll stop by Fluttershy's on the way back. She's sure to know everything there is to know about baby dragons.
