After a couple of months, the summer is over and the fall is here. People return to their normal activities and the 12th precinct too. Beckett has been working the entire summer but without her team. So Ryan and Esposito just come back from their vacations.
Lanie has been helping her friend to go through the summer in the best shape possible after that Castle was gone with his ex wife. Beckett swears that she already overcame what happened that day, but Lanie doesn´t believe her.
-Do you think that he is going to come today?
-Who? Castle?
Beckett nods.
-Well, girl, I don´t know. Do you want to he come over? Because I think that the best thing for you is forget him and that he doesn´t come.
-I don´t care if he does. I mean, I swear Lanie that I already overcame what happened.
-Please, Kate. I know you misses him a lot. It is going to be hard see him again.
-No, I have already forgotten even his face. It was a mistake to think that he and I could be something more than co-workers or friends.
Castle leaves the elevator and walks toward the break room where Beckett and Lanie are talking. He is carrying a paper bag. Lanie is the one sees him first.
- Well, I am glad that you have overcome those feelings because… Hey Castle!
Beckett freezes.
-Hello, Lanie. Hello, Kate.
Beckett closes her eyes, takes a breath and then turn to face him. He is still so charming. She realizes that she hasn´t forgot him and she hasn´t overcome nothing at all.
-Hi!
That is all she could say. Lanie smiles for that and then goes toward the door to leave.
-Girl, I am happy that we could talk. I can see all what you said. I call you later… Bye, Castle.
-Bye, Lanie.
Beckett takes a seat because is shaking and pale. Castle doesn´t understand what happened but he knows that there is something going on. He sits next to her.
-Are you alright, Kate? You don´t look very well.
-I am fine. Is just… nothing. What are you doing here, Castle?
-I wanted to see you. I missed you.
-Yeah, sure.
- I mean it, Beckett.
-What happened with your ex wife?
-Gina? She didn´t go with me. I started to hate her again in the car so I drove her to her house and I went to The Hamptons alone.
-Could you finish your book?
-Yes, I could. Actually I have here the first and only edition for you.
He gives to her the paper bag. She opens it and takes the book.
-Thanks. It is nice of you.
-You deserve it…. So how was your summer?
-It was…. complicated.
-Why? I thought that you and…
-…I broke up with Tom.
-Really? When, why, when?
-It doesn´t matter, Castle.
-It matter for me.
-Well… I broke up with him because… well, he wasn´t the right guy for me.
-When?
-The same day you left.
-Why didn´t you said me nothing that day?
-Why you care?
-Because I care. Are you okay?
-I was sad, but today I think that I am fine.
-You can count with me. I am your friend, Kate.
-I know. Thanks, Castle… Are you going to came back to work?
-Of course! I am sorry, Beckett, but you never are going to be free of me. I am your curse.
-I don´t believe in such things.
-Can I hug you?
-What?
-It´s only a hug, a friendly hug. And tomorrow we can return to our normality, I mean…
-…okay.
-Really?
-Yes.
He hugs her softly. She hugs him with all her force and smiles. Then they break up the hug.
-Well, I have to go to see Lanie.
-And I have to pick up Alexis.
-I see you tomorrow, Castle.
-I see you tomorrow, Beckett.
He throws a kiss with his hand to her and then leaves. She smiles at herself and call Lanie.
-Hey, it´s me. I think that I didn´t overcame nothing but it´s okay. I feel that I can with him…
