Fear is

frozen wings in flight

bound by flying vines

as the earth stretches her green skin

to engulf me

Fear is

the hollow in my tail

where lightning once blazed

and guided my path

through the skies

Fear is

green eyes

on a skinny Viking boy

wielding an iron flint

to take my life

Fear is

knowing death will come

not in battle

nor in glory

nor in fire

but imprisoned on the earth

Fear is

reflected in his eyes

where I thought the fire

of hate would blaze

and I do not understand

Fear is

breaking with the bonds

he cuts with his deadly flint

and I don not understand

but I am free

Fear is

what I am

roaring in his face

lightning and power and death

but

Fear is

not all I am

I am just and fair

and for a life spared

a life I can spare as well

Fear is

a feeling I used to know

but no more

with the small Viking beside me

we fly where it cannot reach us

Fear is

a memory

and now I smile the way he does

and he smiles in mirror

and I forget
