So, I decided to write my first Hunger Games fanfic. Considering I just finished the series, I decided to wanted to do something. This seems a bit cold, but trust me, it's only a "what if" situation. I love Peeta, by the way, almost as much as I love Percy Jackson, and I have nothing against him. Please take the time to reivew this short, thank you.

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

HUNGER GAMES

Peeta snaps back into reality, shaking his head, eyes squeezed shut. A flashback. A bad one, he can feel the adrenaline pumping through his veins, his body. It ahces his mind, thinking about it. He's gripping Katniss's shoulders, tightly. Quickly, he loosens them and begins to breathe more normally; his shaky and ragged breaths becoming more controlled and easy.

"Katniss," he says, staring over her face, studying every detail. He'd pushed her up against the wall, hard, and he can feel the anger surge through his body at the thought that he could to such a thing. She doesn't stir and it makes him hate the Capitol. Eyes widening, he says more frantically, "Katniss!"

Slowly, his movements unsure, he took his index finger and forefinger and placed then against her neck. He let out a shaky, ragged breath, along with a sob, when he felt nothing. He didn't feel her heart, pushing blood through her veins. He didn't feel the soothing feeling of her heart, pushing her along through everything.

He slid to the floor, knuckles bleeding as they scratched against the hard walls, leaving red marks. She went down with him, her body getting colder with every second that passed. Tears welded up in his eyes and he squeezed them shut, letting the salty droplets run down his face.

"Katniss," he breathes, his voice a calming and soft sound, placing his forehead against hers. He sat there for only a few seconds and then moved away, placing his lips against her forehead and letting out a shaky breath. He said he'd protect her.

Always.

Yet, he couldn't even protect her from himself.

HUNGER GAMES

Sickly sweet, isn't it? I don't know why I introduced myself to the HG Fandom with something sad, but it wouldn't leave my mind.

Please, review.
