A very short short involving a Vortian named Naruk. This drabble came from the idea that Irk and Vort were once allies. I imagine if they were close enough, civilian Irken-Vortian families would be formed. And if so, I bet once Impending Doom II started, things went and got ugly.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything, except Naruk and Kinu, and the story.
Naruk wanted a lot of things. She wanted a new Runner to replace her old, broken down model. She wanted some maroon tapestries for that one window in her home. She wanted her husband to clear all his junk out of their yard and she wished she had a new coat of polish for her curling horns. She wanted to go back home. She wanted to stop running. She wanted the war between her people to end. She wanted the war with the Irkens to end. She wished she could see her dear husband again. She wished that things would go back to the way they once were. She wanted Irk and Vort to find peace again.
She wanted a safe place to hide in the woods until the tensions settled. She wanted to have a peaceful sleep for once. She wished she could remain hidden in one of the giant Karkar trees until the wars were over-she hated moving from tree to tree, day to day. She wanted the day to not be terribly hot and she wanted the night to remain comfortably warm.
She wished that Vortians would stop killing Irkens and Irkens would stop killing Vortians. She wished she could see at least one friend again. She wished Vortians would stop hurting each other.
Naruk stared up at the stars, gleaming through her current Karkar's branches. She wished she didn't have to climb so high up. She brought her head back down when the little one in her arms stirred. The child awoke from his quiet sleep and gazed up at his mother, cooing softly and snuggling closer to her chest.
Naruk stared into the ruby orbs of her child, gently scratching his black, velvety antennae. The Irken smeet purred in contentment. A small smile etched across his face and he laid his head against mother's breast, slowly sinking back into sleep.
She held him tighter. She wanted her baby protected from those Vortians who thought his kind were no longer welcome on their world.
So she would go on, deeper and deeper into the thick Vortian forest. She would do whatever it would take to keep her baby away from those terrible radicals. Because most of all, she wanted Kinu to be safe.
The wars that raged on and off her planet would continue. She wished she knew for how long.
End.
I'd like to do more with these characters. If people like them enough, I'll try to do some other shorts invovling them. So tell me what you think. :)
