-Prologue to "How She Began"-
My name is Sanze Tabitur Detractorem. I am a Husky, and I was born on planet Fichina. I am 6'2 ft. tall and I weigh 194 lbs.
The story I am about to tell you is about a young girl named Kurisutaru Sarius DeUchida, but she preffers Krystal as a first name. Among other things, I will tell you about the horrible things we have seen and went through together on her doomed world. First of all, of course, my background, so as I am not a complete stranger to you, whomever may be reading this... record... of hardship and trauma...
When I was four years young, the Communist Union of Plavaz, a powerful nation on Fichina at the time, decided that they wanted to... remove... my home country of Fastay, for lack of a better word. They simply marched in, wasted the kids, executed the men, and raped the women.
I, however, was treated differently. They decided they wanted to force me to watch it all unfold in front of me. One of the soldiers bound my hands. Another peeled my eyelids open so that I may not close them. I witnessed as they raped and murdered my family not two metres from me.
The reason they let me live... Well... I am still uncertain of that. But I believe it was for their own sick reputation. I watched my mother, my father, my sister Irkutka, and all of my friends suffer at the hands of those monsters. Sometimes I feel as though I suffered more than they did. The Plavazian soldiers then threw me into the remote and cold areas of the planet with nothing but a rag to cover myself. I was knuckling through life alone for six years. Six... years.
By the time was ten, a handsome german shepard named Zitola Semenovich found me sleeping behind an abandoned resturant in New Leningrad. He was twenty-four when he found me. Obviously, he felt bad for me, and decided to take me in as his own. He taught me respect, and also taught me the way of the sword.
By the time I was thirteen, a small group of bloodthirsty bandits, which were common on Fichina at the time, came to Zitola's house. He woke me up and told me to run and not to look back. I did as he said, but I looked back anyway. I could not stand the thought of leaving this man. I stood there as I saw my dearest friend get stabbed many times in the chest by the bandits. He was still alive, so they slashed his eyeballs, and poured hot tar down his throat, and shot him. That was enough for my eyes to take.
I ran for what seemed like forever, until I found a small village outside of the city in which I could find refuge. Once again, I was alone. About a year this time.
By the time I was fourteen, I bought a beat up junker of a ship with the money Zitola had left me, and I escaped this icy, cold planet to Cerinia, a planet just out of the reaches of the Lylat System, in a system called the Zabroya System, believing I would find salvation there. I learned of this planet by reading countless books on inter-system politics in my spare time, as Zitola had taught me to read, write, and speak, many languages. There I met an old raccoon that went by the name of Lazaritz. He had an eye for troubled youth such as myself, and decided to take me in. He was a very religious, very evangelical man, and he taught me faith in the holy trinity. I spent the next year training to become a priest, but I abandoned that training because I knew... I just knew that was not the true purpose God appointed me.
By the time I was sixteen, Lazaritz passed peacefully, and I started to get extremely depressed. I had nobody... Again... Nobody but the invisible hand of God. Sometimes that is not enough though...
In my depressed state, I decided to take a stroll. The stroll that made my life it seems. About an hour into my walk, I came across that horrible... sad... familiar stench, of burning flesh and fur. I looked around me, and as I did, I saw columns of smoke coming from the direction of an indigenous village up the road; a village I have yet to visit.
"What is going on up there?" I asked, beside myself.
I ran closer to the village, and as I did so, the sound of laserfire, and screaming, became more distinct. I drew my sword, which I have always kept handy, and proceeded into the village, ready to counter any threat that might be posed not to myself, but to the denizens of the village.
I saw the threat. It seemed like some sort of military offensive was quite literally killing everyone! Instantly, the horrid memories of my early childhood came rushing back, flooding my mind. I quickly shook them off, of course. I quickly realized, however, that I could never stand a chance against these assailants! My sword against their blaster-rifles!? Not a chance! I had no choice but to wait for their departure.
About five minutes later, the assailants left, and all of the village's inhabitants were dead, and burned to the bone. The smell was sickening, but the sight was worse. I said all of them were dead, didn't I? All of them were dead... except one. Or so it seemed. The remaining survivor called me over. She was a lavender fox. She seemed to have been crushed by one of the many totem poles that adorned the now scorched village. Upon closer inspection, it looked like it was destroyed by a grenade. With extreme haste, I ran over to her.
"Are you ok? Can you get free?" I asked her. She did not reply in words, but instead pointed to a relatively undamaged hut. Then she spoke.
"In there… You take care of her… Please... Lepmobhix..." She said. I could tell by the way she was talking that it took all of her energy to say that. This Lepmobhix thing however... I had not a clue what that was at the time. Let me just say I had no idea what was in store for me.
"Absolutely, she will be safe!" I exclaimed, before asking her for her name.
"Midori Letonus DeUchida." She said. "That is a beautiful name. Hold on to it as long as you can. I will be right back."
As I was about to go inside the hut, she grabbed my arm and said, "Thank you… Stranger." She passed at that moment. "Rest in peace." I whispered.
I sighed heavily, and then walked into the hut. Hoping to find the she that Midori spoke of. Upon entering, I was greeted by the male corpse of a dark blue fox with three burn marks in his chest. Death by laserfire. I also noticed the strange staff-like object in his arms. I took the staff and examined it. I came to the conclusion that this fox was Midori's significant other, and I took the staff, seeing as it cannot be kept here anymore.
I ventured further into the hut, but as I did, the sound of sobbing became more apparent. It sounded like a young girl. I walked over to the source of the sobbing, and in a corner, with nothing to cover herself besides the box she was hiding behind, there was a young, blue and white fox. She had to be no more than six years old, sitting there, terrified. My eyes were open in awe. Without a second thought, I removed my coat, wrapped her in it, as she currently had no clothes on, and ran out the door and straight back to my home, where I once shared living space with my mentor, Lazaritz. This was no doubt Midori's daughter, she looked just like her.
As soon as I burst into the house, I sat the young girl down on my sofa, and fed her some fresh carrots from Lazaritz's garden. She did not speak. This young girl had a mysterious aura about her. Poor thing. She reminded me of my childhood… my suffering. Strange how similar our fates are...
