Nightmares
I'm awoken from my restless sleep by the sound of a sharp scream. I get up and dress quickly. As I rush out the door of my quarters, I hear another.
I reach the deck below and try to locate where the screams came from. There's another just a moment later and I rush through the door to the hall. Emma. The only one with a room separate from everyone else's.
I knock quickly before entering. I am I gentleman after all. "What's going on in here?"
She sits up so quickly I'm afraid she'll hit her head on the low hanging beam above her head.
"Nothing." She says simply.
"With a scream like that I doubt it was nothing."
"Well it was so you can go." Her eyes are shiny. A single ray of moonlight shines through her porthole and it catches a tear on her face.
"Well I'll go when you tell me what happened."
"It's none of your business."
"As captain of this ship, everything is my business."
"It was a stupid dream. Happy now?"
"No. What happened?"
"I had a nightmare and screamed. That's all."
"Of course it is. Swan, you don't have to hide anything from me, you know."
She takes a deep breath and turns away from me.
"Henry?" I ask. She nods slightly.
"You put him to bed an hour ago. He's fine. Pan is in the box and there's no getting out of that."
She nods again, but then she shakes it.
"That doesn't mean he's safe."
"He is for now. I give you my word as captain of The Jolly Roger, he's alright."
She gives me a half smile and nods.
"Okay, Hook. I believe you."
"As you should. Now, I think you'd better try to sleep again. Hopefully, better dreams will find you." I bow out and return my quarters.
I find myself wondering if she did find better dreams. I come up with the insane notion that she may be dreaming of me. I know I dream of her…
