Dear Mr. President

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Summary: I got the idea from a prompt from the prompt is: "The temperature outside is finally above freezing and winter's snow is beginning to melt, revealing a season's worth of lost things. Disregarding hats and mittens, a man walking his dog becomes intrigued with a black velvet box. He opens it and is shocked to discover its contents. What's inside the box and how did it get there?" It's Ruffie! Yay! 600 words exactly.

Rufus was not in a good mood. Dark Nation had woken him up at two in the morning, mewling to be let out. Honestly, the panther was not a kitten anymore. He should be old enough to hold it, but no, the panther not only demanded to be let out, but he demanded that his master come with him and take a walk. A walk, of all things. He was a panther, not a damnedable dog. He'd pushed him out of the small house, not giving him anytime to put on anything. He was outside, in the middle of Wutai, with nothing on except for his pajama bottoms.

He shot an angry look at the large cat, wrapping his arms around himself. Dark Nation looked pleased with himself, leading Rufus who knows where in the dark. He briefly wondered if his turks were following him. He doubted it. Reno he knew would be drunk right now, Rude asleep, and the others... He wasn't going to bother himself thinking about that. He looked around and wondered where on earth his pet was leading him. They seemed to have gone deeper into the city, a place Rufus himself rarely went. He wasn't very well liked there.

He shrugged and focused his attention on the sky instead. It was early February and the sky was nice and clear. He could almost count the stars if he wanted to and if he had more time. He briefly heard a rustle of a nearby bush but ignored it, figuring that it was simply Dark Nation going off the path to go to the bathroom. It wasn't until he tripped and fell face first into the dirt that he realized that he was wrong. He spit out a mouthful of dirt and glared forward, finding himself face to face with his pet, who was still looking at him with that feline smile.

He growled and pushed himself up, looking down at his feet to see what he had tripped over. He found himself growing curious when he saw a black box at his feet. Sitting back, he picked it up and looked at it. Someone must have left it there the day before. He was just going to leave it there and let whoever had lost it find it the next day. That is, until he saw his name written on it. He looked around and saw no one. Slightly suspicous he held it out for Dark Nation to sniff it. The panther did so and gave him that feline grin.

Rufus shrugged and figured it was safe to open. He pulled off the top of the black box and peered in; inside was some folded fabric- silk by the look of it, and white. He stood up and pulled it out to get a better look and realized what it was: A kimono. When he held it out a single piece of paper fell to he ground, holding the kimono carefully he bent to pick it up. It was folded in half once and he opened it. Written in a familiar handwriting was a note to him.

Dear Mr. President,

There is a festival tonight for Valentine's day. I hope you'll join me.

-A Princess.

He smiled and put the note in the pocket of his pocket, hearing a supressed giggle coming from the nearby bushes. She chose to ignore it and, folding the kimono as best as he could, placed it back in the box and walked back towards his house, Dark Nation trailing happily behind. Suddenly, it wasn't so cold to him anymore.
