A Flaw in the Family Concept
a
short drabble from one Suou Tamaki's perspective
Note: Hello, again. u.u; It seems that I don't really like to write at all unless I've got a reason to do so. For this little piece, I had the intention of playing the temporary role of Tamaki in a friend's forum ( winglica . com / forum ) as the previous one had to give it up due to the demands of real life. I honestly have no idea why, but I thought that the role plays would pick up if Tamaki were more active. Without further ado.
Disclaimer: I own nothing by my insanity while Ouran Koukou Hosuto Kurabu is the mindbaby of Bisco Hatori's.

Club activities were over. Still, he remained seated on one of the many plush couches that decorated the third music room. The light of the setting sun filtered through the tall windows, overlaying the floors and furniture with a saffron glow. Although sunset seemed like a lonely thing, he thought it was also beautiful.
A door opened and closed. Footsteps, light and steady, were approaching. Still, he didn't budge. His gaze was cast upon the tiny particles of dust dancing suspended in the air.
The footsteps stopped. He heard an exhalation of breath. He moved, then, to lean back against the couch. A sigh escaped his lips as he did so, eliciting amusement in himself.
Just like yawning encourages yawning, so does sighing.
"Why haven't you gone home, yet?" he asked, his voice light and without intention.
"Hn, I should ask you the same thing," came his companion's smooth reply.
"Perhaps you're here to listen to me," he answered for his friend, "Very well, then.. I shall indulge you."
Tamaki took a deep breath, taking the time to gather his thoughts. All his questions, his doubts, his insecurities came out in his simple statement: "I am confused."
The person behind him remained silent.
He chuckled, closing his eyes, leaning farther back against the couch to rest his head. "It's normal to be protective of your family members, right?" he asked, "It's all right to want to protect them from certain things.."
He paused. The air around him seemed to still, as if waiting for more.
"Perhaps there is a flaw in this family concept."
Still, no response.
"Haruhi already has a father, and a real one at that. He may not much really care for the innocence of his daughter's lips, but he's her real father."
Silence. He opened his eyes, his vision meeting the distant ceiling now shadowed by the lack of ample light. He had a feeling, just like the darkening ceiling, of something that was about to end.
"So what am I?"
The question hung in the air like a Christmas decoration in July.
"You're a king, of course," his fellow club member finally answered.
"Kyouya!" he sat up and whirled around to face the smirking boy, "Now is not the time to be kidding around!"
The light was dimming now. He could see half of his friend's face embraced in shadows, contrasting the other half which was set aglow by the thin orange light from the windows. That same light glinted off of the glasses that he wore.
It was at this time that he could visibly see the two sides of Kyouya Ootori.
"Now is not also the time for you to be stupidly lamenting over trivial things," the bespectacled boy countered, making Tamaki's face fall.
"Kyouya!"
Even as he sat, troubled, his eyes never ceased to marvel at all the beauty before him.

Lo, a mom and dad thread resulted in my being appointed as Tamachii's temper pepper (which can be found at the forum). Take Tamaki off my hands, please. He may be an interesting character but I don't like him. D:
