AN: Takes place sometime after Cruger becomes the Shadow Ranger. I love Kat/Cruger and I wrote another fic about them called Reaching Out. This is a completely separate one.

I'm walking down the sidewalk to go inside headquarters when I see him, Commander Anubis Doggie Cruger walking out into the arboretum to look at the moon. He does this so many times since I've known him; going out late at night to look at the stars no doubt thinking of his lost home world.
He's a solitary person who keeps to himself, blaming himself for everything that happened. Losing his comrades, his planet, his wife Aisynia. Before he became the Shadow Ranger my heart would ache every time I saw him like this, now it aches even more.
I'm in love with him.
I've always had feelings for him but in the last three weeks they've become impossible to repress but I know I can never reveal them. I'm a scientist working with him to defeat Grumm. I hate Grumm as well.

I met Cruger thirty years ago after Grumm attacked my home world of Kiteria and my sister Jaylia was killed. I fled to Earth and with my skills got a job working at SPD. I met Cruger two months later.
One night I found him whimpering and waking him up asked what was wrong, he told me the story of his comrades and Sirius. "Cruger you can't blame yourself."
He had looked at me with those soulful eyes, "I don't know what else to do."
"Think of ways to defeat Grumm."
It was ten years later we began to work on the ranger technology and the parents of the present day rangers getting their DNA forever altered. One night after it happened I found Cruger staring at the stars.
"You do this often Commander."
He looked at me; "You can call me Doggie. Only those I consider true friends can call me that."
"Please call me Kat." I smiled at him.
"Kat there's another part of my story I never told you, the general who lead the invasion was named Banagg, he kidnapped my wife Aisynia; I never saw her again."
I took his hand; "I'm sorry Doggie just remember I'll always be here for you."
"Thank you." He whispered. The stars twinkled brightly and seemed to stretch forever.

Back in the present I continue watchingwith tears in my eyes, I briefly consider going inside but quickly decide against it, and walk to him. "Can I join you?"
He looks at me and the faraway look in his eyes vanishes, "Yes you can, you are always welcome."
"We'll defeat Grumm one day."
Cruger smiles; "I know if Banagg can finally be defeated then so can Grumm. I know Aisynia would be proud."
"I'm sure she would."
He looks at me; "Your sister would be proud of you as well, anytime you want to talk about her I'll listen."
Tears fill my eyes, "Thanks Doggie. Remember I'll always be here for you."
He takes my hand; "It's mutual Kat."
We hold hands and stare at the twinkling stars; I may never tell him my feelings but I wouldn't trade this kind of moment for anything in the universe.
