AN: This is what I wish happened. Though I know it didn't. Have some ideas floating up there for a post ep fic for this one too, where Booth gets to see Brennans note. I see there's already one up here but my concept is a bit different, so hopefully that one will be written soon.

"Booth, I don't think it's a coincident that he took Brennan when he did." Cam said.

Seeley, trying not to explode, at either her or himself, ground out the words, "Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing." And he walked away.

Cam was left with the distinct impression that something important had been said in this conversation that she had missed. So she did what any logical female would do, she chased after him, "Seeley!"

He spun around and glared at her. His eyes were bright with anger, thought who or what that anger was directed at she didn't know. "Seeley, I said that because I think the Grave Digger may be closer to us than we think. But I get the impression that you think she was taken when she was for a completely different reason, so spill!"

He really didn't want to do this, didn't want to get into this with her. He knew it could only lead to a drawn out conversation that he didn't have time for. The time display in the center of the room that was ominously ticking away reminded him just how much he didn't have time for this. But he also knew that Cam wouldn't leave him alone, she was like a dog with a bone.

"Look Camille, this is all my fault. I wasn't on watch, I wasn't paying attention when I should have been." He paused and considered not finishing his thought, but decided total honesty was the way to go, "I wasn't paying attention because I was out with you."

Cam blinked, "Me, so your saying that this is my fault, no our relationships fault? We are not Dr. Brennan's keepers!"

He shook his head, he knew she wouldn't understand. "You're right, we're not" he said emphasizing the word 'we', "but I am. It's not an easy job but someone has to do it, and I signed up and never looked back. Till a few months ago. And I've allowed this fling we're having to distract me from what is most important, and I can't do that anymore."

She was stunned. He was breaking up with her! He was breaking up with her for a squint who couldn't hold a normal conversation with a 10 year old! "So you're saying that Dr. Brennan is more important than our relationship?"

He closed his eyes and slowly let out his breath. He didn't want to blow up at her, he didn't have the time to clean up the pieces, "What relationship Cam? We get together after work a couple times a week for take-out food and sex. That is not a relationship!"

She crossed her arms over her chest, "You didn't answer my question."

He glanced again at the clock, time to finish this conversation, "Yes. Bones is more important than any relationship or any person in my life, short of Parker that is. So when all this is over, I don't want any more of this with you. No more flirting at the diner, no more double entendres over the autopsy table. I only have room for one woman in my life, and that's Bones. And if she has even a fraction of the feelings for me that I have for her, it'll be worth it."

"And if she doesn't"

He shook his head, "You know what, it doesn't matter. I won't let myself be distracted again. Now excuse me, I have to find my partner."

She watched him walk away and knew he was walking out of her life as well.
