Star Bright

Summary: Sofia asks Amber why she is so fascinated with stars, and her answer isn't what she was expecting.

Disclaimer: I don't own the show. :)

A/N: This story is short and sweet, so I apologize for the length. Good news though. I've decided to delay my break for a while, because I became rather inspired recently to continue writing. It won't be nearly as often as it used to be, but I'll try to post a bit more often than I have been. Besides, with my Thanksgiving break beginning, I'll have a little more free time. :D Let's just hope inspiration hangs around. The Elena special tomorrow should help. ;)

*Story*

"Looking at your Amberina Major again?" Sofia asked jokingly as she looked up from her book toward her sister. The girls had been studying earlier, though Amber had declared she'd needed a short break so she could clear her mind.

"Maybe," Amber returned with a secretive smile. She glanced back at the girl. "The stars really are interesting, Sofia. They're unlike anything I've ever seen."

"What makes you so interested in them anyway? I mean, I love stars as much as anyone, but…why do you find them so fascinating?"

The blonde princess shrugged before glancing back through her telescope. "They're different… They're beautiful and mysterious." She looked up at the actual sky rather than through the bent lenses. "It makes me feel like there's something else to look forward to out there, like there's still so much we don't know about."

Sofia stayed silent as she listened.

"You study magic, Sofia. You know how it feels." Amber turned slightly and glanced at her sister. "Tell me what it's like when you learn a new spell—or even better, perfect it."

The auburn-haired girl grinned. "It feels awesome…like I can do anything."

"Exactly." Amber held a hand to her heart. "That's how I feel when I look at the stars." She turned her focus to the night sky once more. "When I look at them, I see so much more than just little points of light. I see something impossible to reach but beautiful to see. Just because we can't have them with us doesn't mean we should forget about them…"

Sofia blinked when she saw the older girl clasp her other hand over her previous one, as if holding on to something. "Amber?"

As if snapping out of a trance, the older princess just giggled and smiled at the other girl. "Anyway, Sofia, that's why I like the stars so much. There's so much we don't know about them, and that makes them more interesting."

The younger princess smiled slowly and nodded. "I get it. Really." She then patted the spot on the bed next to her. "Ready to continue studying?"

Amber rolled her eyes. "I would be studying on a weekend evening… Sofia, you are turning me into a bookworm." She giggled as Sofia laughed.

As the girls returned to their studies, Amberina Major twinkled twice in the night sky before all was still once more.
