When the tow truck started to heave the semi from the crumbled carcass of the Impala, the screeching felt like the scream of a banshee to Sam. The blinking lights of police cars and ambulances cut through the darkness, but all he could see was an image carved into his mind – his brother's pale and pained face in the rear mirror, so young and lost, so torn and still so sure of what was the right thing to do. He banished any thought of Dean bleeding to death, alone, trapped in the wreck. If Dean couldn't fight anymore, Sam would.
