Pippin closed his eyes to the sounds around him, it was so loud. Everything was so loud. He was asking him where they were. Where was Frodo and Sam? Tell me...who bears the ring? Tell me...
Pippin's eyes danced around the fire around him and admits it he spotted Frodo holding something securely in his arms. He ran to his cousin crying out his name.
Pale blue eyes turned to him, and he saw what he was holding.
Sam.
Frodo'd beloved Sam. The pleasantly plump, and small hobbit lay in his arms, pale with death. "Pippin..." Tears spilled down his face, "Why did you tell him where to find him...he took him...He took my Sam."
Pippin shook his head sinking on the ground. He was fond of Sam, and looked up to him. He always treated him as if he was older, and not the other way around. "No! I didn-"
Frodo just sobbed bent over, pressing his lips to Sam's brow. "Sam...SAM!" The mournful cries filled the air. Pippin pressed himself to the ground sobbing, hands over his head.
"Pi..."
"Pip..."
"PIPPIN!"
Panicked eyes shot up, and a small hobbit sat up. Tears were streaming down his face as his cousins looked at him. Frodo had his shoulder, face full of concern, and Merry held his hands.
Pippin slowly began to remember what happened. He and Merry paid a visit to their cousin today, and Pippin fell asleep on the comfy couch. "Mr. Pippin? My what has happen' to 'em?" Sam who was in the middle of eating a sweet cake, spoke, hand covering his mouth so not to show his half chewed food.
Pippin looked at him, and shot off the couch wrapping his arms around the small hobbit, "I AM SO SORRY SAM!!"
Sam sat there, and struggled to swallow. Frodo and Merry looked at each other as Pippin sobbed onto Sam's neck. Sam having no idea what to do, pat Pippin's head awkwardly. "Uh...there there master Pippin?"
After he had calmed down, Frodo and Sam left the room to let Merry talk to Pippin. Merry held his childlike cousin, Pippin sniffing loudly, and clinging to him.
"Now Pip, what has you all in tears?" Merry asked softly.
"I killed Sam..."
Merry jumped. He hadn't expected that answer. Merry ran his hands through his younger cousin's curls. He chuckled, "That isn't possible...if you killed Sam, then why was Sam standing there just a moment ago?"
Pippin considered this and looked up at his cousin. "I dreamed of him again."
Now :that: Merry understood. Since they'd come home Pippin had dreamed of the eye. Had dreamed of him talking to him again just as he had done before. Merry wrapped his arms around him.
"He can't get to you, not here. Your safe here." Pippin clutched onto Merry and whispered, "I dreamed that Frodo was holding Sam, and he was...he was dead. Frodo was crying so hard..."
Merry silently nodded. He placed his hands on his cousins face and tilted his head upwards. "Pip...my dear little took, I'm here, Frodo is here, and Sam is here. Everything is okay...your safe."
Merry closed the space between them and kissed Pippin's lips, as he'd done many times before. Pippin melted in the touch, and his arms wrapped tightly around Merry's neck. Merry pulled away kissing Pippin's throat, whispering, "I am here, and :he: will not hurt you, or Sam, or Frodo. You are safe. Safe with me."
Pippin smiled against the warm embrace of his love, and friend. "I love you Merry." Merry smiled.
"I love you too."
