Silver hair as gray as his thoughts
Whatever you tell him is nothing but naught
Never sees the clouds' silver lining,
As if he never sees the sun shining
He never laughs, but always scowls
I kid him, "Watch out for jowls!"
"Shut up," he grovels
Then buries his nose to another of his novels
The storm rages on, but he is unmoving.
"The peace is always destruction's preluding,"
he says, with hardly a blink.
"All that floats will fall, sink."
"You're such a pessimist,"
I start, but then desist;
we've been through this before:
victory for me is not in store.
But when push comes to shove,
And help is needed by those who he love,
The Pessimist goes out of his way,
Like Superman; up, up and away!
"I thought you didn't care," I offer
Like usual, I thought an answer he will not proffer.
So imagine my surprise when he
smiled and didn't let me be.
"I know what's important, and what is not,"
His eyes fly to me while he gives a shrug
"You're one of them, though,"
And he gives me a hug.
