"Arthur~!" Matthew called out as he ran towards his older friend. He held a wooden box in one hand.
"Hm? What is it Matt?" Arthur stopped and turned around.
"Look!" The boy held out the box. It wasn't very big, nor small. It had a teacup engraved in the middle. Vines were carved around the frame and a wooden rose blossomed here and there.
"It's a very beautiful box." Arthur held it.
"Open it!" Matthew urged. The older boy did so. He saw a set of pins on a revolving cylinder and a metal comb. A melody started as the cylinder turned. It was a music box. Arthur recognized the song.
"Isn't this the song that the boy named Veniciano is always singing or humming?" Arthur asked.
Matthew nodded. "Kiku told me it was called Marukaite Chikyuu or, in English, Draw A Circle, There's The Earth. It sounds nice as a music box, doesn't it?"
Arthur nodded. "Where did you get this? It's lovely."
His younger friend smiled brightly. "I made it!" He spread out his arms. "With some help, of course. Kiku helped with the notes."
Arthur's eyes widened. It was officially the most beautiful music box he had ever seen. Because Matthew had made it. "Y-you made it! Even the box?"
Matthew blushed a little. "Eheheh, I had a little more help with that part."
"It's… awesome."
"You really think so?"
"Of course!"
"Even more awesome than that boy named Gilbert?" Gilbert was always ranting about how he was the most awesome thing in the world.
"Definitely. Waaayyyy more awesome than him." Matthew knew that Arthur hated Gilbert. He giggled. "I'm glad you like it, cuz it's a present! For you!"
"W-what? Really?" Arthur stared at the elegant box.
"Yup!"
"T-thank you. But why me?" He couldn't believe it.
"Why not? Arthur, what do you mean by 'why me?'?" Matthew furrowed his eyebrows, put his hands on his slender hips and puffed his cheeks out. It made him look like a little kid even though he was a teenager. "You're my best friend! Why wouldn't I give it to you?"
"B-but…" Arthur didn't know what to say. (A/N: And I don't know why I wrote this) He always knew what to say. Only his friend Matthew could leave him at a loss for words. "I… Thank you, Matthew."
Matthew's sour face immediately sweetened. "Yay!" He threw his arms around the shorter boy. Arthur was surprised by the sudden hug and he nearly dropped the box. He blushed at the contact. "Oops." Matthew let go. "But I'm glad you liked it so much."
"Of course. After all, it's a present from you." Matthew blushed.
"By the way, where were you going?" The younger boy asked.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"You looked like you were going somewhere before I caught up to you. Or am I wrong?"
"Oh, I was headed for the café. Do you want to come along?"
"Sure!"
