Jo sat nervously on the edge of the couch, her fingers twitching wildly. She felt sick with anxiety. Alex should have been home by now. Part of her wanted him to hurry home so she could rip off the band aid; the other half wanted more time to prepare. Not that she would ever be ready.

She felt so stupid. How could she have messed this up? She and Alex had talked about kids at different times, but never specifics. How would he feel? How would he react? Is this something he really, truly wanted? With her?

She felt like emptying her stomach and leaned forward, rubbing her temple with her fingers. Where was he? She practiced again what she would say. How she would apologize. Give him an out. Beg for forgiveness. Offer to leave.

She heard his key jostle in the door and quickly stood to face him, her breaths becoming shallower every second. He turned into the dark living room and grinned at her, "Hey, you okay? I thought you were coming in after your appointment." When she didn't answer he looked around, "Why are you sitting in the dark?"

Jo took a deep breath, her mind briefly flipping back to another moment standing in this darkened room not knowing what Alex was about to say. He gave her a questioning look, "Jo? You okay? You look pale."

Jo nodded before looking to the floor, "I need to tell you something and I don't know how to do it."

Alex gave a worried look and inched closer to her, "Okay."

Everything Jo had rehearsed earlier left her mind. Her lips trembled as she tried to come up with a way to build up to the news before blurting out, "I'm pregnant."

Alex stood still as a statue, the only exception was his eyes that seemed to keep widening as the silence stretched. He finally crossed his arms over his chest with a smirk on his face, "And just who is the father?"

Jo's eyes blazed in anger. She grabbed a pillow off the couch and began hitting him repeatedly in the chest with it, "You jerk! You unbelievable little…" Alex at first could only hold his hands up in defense as he laughed but soon took the pillow from her and bent over at the waist holding it to his stomach as his laughter got louder. Jo put her hands on her hips, "What's so funny?"

Alex stood up straighter and met her eyes, "You should have seen your face. I'm sorry, it just seemed like you were scared to tell me and that's the only thing I could think of that would make you being pregnant bad news. And all the tension was killing me. You should have seen your face."

Jo crossed her arms and glared at him before she began to smile slightly and shake her head amused, "You're really okay with this?"

Alex sobered up quickly and took a step towards her, pulling her into his arms, "Of course I am. Are you?"

Jo hugged him tighter and breathed a sigh of relief, "I am now."

Alex's hands roamed her back soothingly, "When did you find out?"

"Today at my appointment when they asked about my cycle. I hadn't even noticed I was late. We're already six weeks along."

Alex pulled back to cup her cheek and met her lips in a tender kiss, "We're having a baby." His hand drifted hesitantly to her still flat stomach, "I can't believe it."

Jo smiled happily as she placed her hand over his and gave a quiet, "Yeah." She then looked up at him quickly while jabbing her finger in his chest, "Don't think you being all sweet now is gonna get you out of the doghouse for earlier."

Alex smirked, "You were too serious, it was freaking me out." He gingerly ran his fingertips over her stomach, "Have you been feeling okay?"

Jo nodded, "I've felt great. Baby Karev has been nice to me so far."

Alex nodded with a look of awe, "Baby Karev. I can't believe we're going to be parents, this is gonna be great."

Jo hugged him tightly once more, "It's going to be the greatest thing ever."
