Disclaimer: I don't own Degassi or the song Concrete Wall by Zee Avi.
They yelled a lot. Far more than Clare ever wanted them to. They lived in a one bedroom apartment in which both of them –reluctantly – shared a bed together and made love every once and a while. The landlord didn't like them; in fact, he hated them. They yelled a lot.
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
She begged that he would yell less because as much as she hated nearly everything about him most of the times, they were mentally attached to each other.
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
He always said she was unresponsive, but it wasn't her fault. He shouted a lot. He never let her get a single word in.
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
Some nights things would get messy. Some nights Eli would throw things. One night she threw a shoe. Another, a lamp. He yelled more. Don't break the shit I buy.
If it's so bad, then leave.
He didn't say anything. Mental attachment.
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
One night she slept on the couch. That caused him to be… enraged. He yelled again. She yelled back at him. And she would push him and hit his chest and then they would yell again and make love.
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
She did cute things. Like write him corny love songs or make his favourite food for dinner. He didn't care. He told her to stop acting like such a child.
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
She yelled at him one day that she wasn't happy. He told her to suck it up. He told her to get therapy. That made her furious. You get therapy, you jackass!
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
"Eli?" she whispered. He was looking at the television, as Clare peered through the bedroom door. "Eli?" she said again.
"What." He grumbled, and Clare stepped out of the darkness and into the light that was shining from the TV.
"Do you still love me?"
He didn't say anything.
"Eli?" She said again.
"What!"
"I asked you something." Her voice was small and almost helpless.
"You know the answer to that."
"No; I don't."
"Yeah, you do." He argued.
"I don't!" she shouted, and grabbed the remote to the TV.
Boom sh'clack clack. Boom sh'clack clack.
"Just leave, Eli."
"Cla–"
"Pack your things, and leave."
"Clare."
"Eli."
"Clare!"
"Eli!"
She threw the remote across the room. He yelled. She yelled.
Boom sh'clack clack.
Boom sh'clack clack.
Boom sh'clack clack.
Boom sh'clack clack.
He left.
Boom sh'
